In the course of a discussion with
fitzthetoad I came up with a definition I liked (which also pulled together a string of Thelemic ideas that I might explore later in more depth):
Being open-minded is acknowledging that something "right" to you may be "wrong" to somebody else, and vice versa - no more, no less. It doesn't stop you from fighting for what you think is right, it just removes the illusion that some ultimate authority justifies your actions. It means you take responsibility for your actions knowing full well that someone thinks what you're doing is wrong. And it means not being surprised when others do the same.
Updated my LJ theme and brought it into the 21st century. Still a few quirks to sort out (like the default background colors for user pictures on the friends page), and I think I'll steal a few more graphic bits from my main site, but overall I'm pleased.
Speaking of main site... need to update that. Hrm. And my LJ bio in a major way.
Cleaned up my friends list a bit, added a few (more) people who write interesting things.
Running the short descriptive blurb for the new band by the rest of the folks tonight, will do a pseudo-official announcement of the band (and our first gig!) later. Still have a spot for a goth-friendly cellist et al., but should probably spend more time with arrangements first.
It's nice to know that, even though I'm a rather out-of-shape geek, I can still Carry Heavy Things when the occasion calls for it.
Coming to terms with an archetypal self-misidentification, more on which later.
Wondering if the Pirates movies took the same wrong turn as the Matrix movies, as seems likely from Dead Man's Chest. Only one way to find out, I suppose.
Researching more podcasts, which is mixed bag in exactly the same way that MySpace pages are a mixed bag. Ye gods, but there are some painful things to listen to out there.
Enjoying making sentences with implied subjects.
