(Untitled)

Did he cause the trip in your step
the fainting spells
the brief excursions to and from upstairs balcony gardens
to water and salt the morning flowers
Lines forming to catch a glimpse of you
and opportunities to watch you emote
and run your fingers down the provencal scenes
on your bedroom wallpaper
All for love, you lay here left
vision sewn to the ceiling
and occasionally dresses you wanted him to see you in
and stilettos you'd worn only once
you're so lovely
don't you know they watch you, captivated
but all you see is blurry black remains of last week's mascara
and hands that once touched his face
You fill the bath tub with every shirt and tie of his
and make it your temporary grave
Asleep, your dreams are so much saner than your routine.
And then you hear a car in the drive
Your love has returned with different eyes
and he brought you some words that you can borrow
