Since Sunday morning at 8:30 am I have been a slave to CIT. I've been sitting in the basement of Mudd for at least 6 hours each day acting cheerful as I explain to new students that they need to know their e-mail username and password to get online... that this information is in their mailbox...that their mailbox is in wilder... that the combination for the mailbox should have been given to them during enrollment.... etc.
Actually, today was a bit more fun because the authentication thingy for South Campus was broken... so people who came in complaining they couldn't connect to the internet had a legitimate reason. So that was nice.
Today all the returning students came back. I thought I wouldn't have to work much in Firelands, because there are no new students etc... but tonight I realized that was a faulty assumption - older students = older computers. older computers = older OS's.... like the dreaded Windows ME. ME = meep!
Tonight this girl named Laura asked me to fix her computer, which had broken when she installed the recommended antivirus software. I went to her room to find that she had Windows ME... and every time the computer tried to start all that came up was the blue screen of death. Fortunately I'd seen this problem before - even though the CIT webpage suggests that Windows ME users install VirusScan 7.0 Home Edition, doing so causes the aforementioned problem. So I uninstalled 7.0 Home and installed 4.51 instead... and everything worked just fine. But while I was doing this rather simple stuff, me and Laura had fun talking about how evil Windows ME is and about how she grew up in NYC for awhile but then moved to Georgia or something... it was just fun times. Deffinitely the coolest person I've met through being an RCC.
Tonight I was thinking of going to see the Raveonettes at the Sco... but then my inability to like, do stuff alone took over and I stayed home and played Tony Hawk 5 & watched punky brewster w/ Carly instead. I'd asked Carly if she wanted to go to the Sco but she didn't. She was like, "you should just go without me... if you don't go anywhere how are you ever gonna meet anyone?" It's so true.... I suck.
