[About a day after the Break the World Incident, a coded video message is sent to the Independence 1 from a military base in South America. The video shows Athrun. This is former ZAFT Special Forces Agent Athrun Zala. Upon completion of the mission, the ZGMF-X23S Savior, the ZGMF-X56S/γ Blast Impulse, and GN-008GNHW/B Seravee made landfall on the ( Read more... )

*After a brief run-in with a girl on the coast, Shinn is in dire need of a fresh set of clothing. All things considered he still is in a good mood*

So how's the return-trip plan going?

Well, we're stuck here for a couple more days. But the base in Panama said they'd get an airlift here as soon as possible. I would say try to enjoy yourself in the meantime, but...

[Athrun turns on the TV. They're talking about Break the World.]

It'll be hard to do with this being all they're talking about in the media. Still, you should at least buy another set of clothes or two while we're here.

That won't be a problem. I'm sure they'd love a desperate tourist.

*Shinn looks over at the news*

Though that might just open up a new round of complaints about the GDF again.

I think you'll find that media image isn't all it's cracked up to be. Gendo Ikari's opinions aside.

What's more important, I think, is figuring out who was in those three ZAFT Gundams, and why they were helping the Zala loyalists. If they were part of the same faction, their tactics would have been more coordinated...

*resists the urge to facepalm at himself*

...and they would most likely have gotten those Gundams in a different manner.

I actually have a theory regarding who those three pilots are working for.

Unfortunately I don't have a shred of physical evidence.

...Blue Cosmos? You think they got three more pilots like the ones that were piloting Gundams during the Bloody Valentine War?

Well why not? It's the only way I figure three people could keep up with Coordinators.

Unless they were Newtypes. Or artificial Newtypes. Or enhanced soldiers. Or something of that nature.

You are right, though, it fits Blue Cosmos's modus operandi, and I can see how they'd be willing to work with radical ZAFT factions to reignite tensions between the two groups. Which leaves the question of where they're operating from, and how Blue Cosmos is continuing to get resources.

Indeed. Muruta Azrael was killed at Jachin Due, so they don't have access to his pockets any longer. But at the same time, if Blue Cosmos had only one financial backer, it never would have grown as much as it did, even with sympathizers in the Earth forces' military.

Which just leaves us with the question of who else could be funding the group. What kind of intelligence resources can we access without being hindered by red tape?

Whoever would be doing that would have to be pretty powerful to revive the group so quickly after that battle. They'd also be someone who thinks they have something to gain from wholesale slaughter.

Unfortunately I can't think of anything at the GDF's disposal that would be worthwhile in this situation.

There are plenty of groups who think they could profit from that, A-LAWS and their backers being only the most prominent.

And the GDF's intelligence sources are rather...lacking. I assume ZAFT doesn't have much in this department either.

I'd volunteer personally, but I'd have no idea where to start. Besides...for now, I'd like to get back to Independence-1. I'm still a little worried about Setsuna's mental state.
