Personally, I'm still unsure about the finale. I felt like BE was handed a lot of shit and he tried to make the most of it. I loved the Skins vibe we got from many of the scenes, and that it was funny and uplifting, but at this point there was nothing he could've done to save this series as a whole. So many storylines still needed to be tackled and resolved, a task that couldn't have possibly be fulfilled in 50 minutes.

And of course it was all overshadowed by the stupidity that was the evil psychiatrist and Freddie's unneeded murder. I could't even take this plot seriously, so I guess that's why I hated the last scene as well. I mean, the gen 1 finale was ambiguous enough, and god knows I wasn't a big fan of Cassie disappearing to New York with money we never knew she had, but at least the question whether you're finally going to be in the same place emotionally and physcially as the person you're in love with is not only universal, but also the recurring theme of the Sid and Cassie love story, so it made sense and was even slightly poetic in a way.

Whereas with this gen's ending scene I just thought it was dumb and pointless. I despised how Cook was portrayed, and how Dr. Foster was shown to be this totally evil person who doesn't have any redeeming qualities or, you know, reasons for his behaviour. We don't know why he was so obsessd with Effy, or why he was lurking around Freddie's shed, or why he even knew Freddie's phone number to begin with. E4 actually hit the nail on the end with their official statement, where they called Dr. Foster a 'TV baddie'. Why Skins, which praises itself for its realism, felt the need to introduce a stereotypical and one-dimensional character to kill off one of the main cast is beyond me. It would've been more profound to have Freddie die in a car crash or whatever. Yes, it would've been random, but these random things actually happen and are realistic, whilst being battered to death by your grilfirend's obsessed shrink isn't. Or you know, the writers could've just let Freddie live and be his boring self for another episode.

And I find it kinda disconcerting that people over at E4 are practically angry that we didn't see the amazing Cook kill Foster. Skins has been awfully ridiculous lately, but glorifying murder and turning it into a selfless and even heroic act to avenge your best friend's death is not what I want to associate with this generation, and I certainly don't want people to cheer for it to happen, even if it's only a fictional and purely evil tv character.

It also cheapens Cook's character quire a bit, imo. I never was a huge fan, because he falls into the category of 'bad boy with a heart of gold' which I often find so contrived that I have a hard time warming up to them. He also broke out of prison, which negates any development he might have had.

Let's move on to NE. They were awfully neglected this series, and terribly rushed in the final episode. They writers had this amazing thing, and they didn't use it nearly as much as they should've, which is a shame. I'm still disappointed at how they handled them, and this series in general. They didn't even have a storyline outside of their relationship, and other than the Cook/Naomi scene in ep8 all their moments, be it with each other or other people, were connected to their relationship. Even Katie, Panda and Thomas got more to work with. Not to mention I sometimes had trouble recognising them as the characters we fell in love with last year, and I think occassionally the actresses (especially Lily) felt the same way. Seriously, at times I had to picture them with a fringe and bows and short blonde hair with floral print everywhere to even connect to what was happening with them. I didn't need Lily to look 'hotter' and suddenly dress very differently to like her.

And what's with the all plot holes and unexplained things (Naomi's new house, her mother's absence, where the Ficthes/Katie live now)?

I mostly agree with yout great analysis (I LOVED reading them, btw), though I have to say that it was actually Kat who impressed me most this year acting wise. Lily was terribly off in some scenes, seemingly playing a different character in others, and nailing the rest. Kaya got way more interesting and diverse stuff to do than Kat, but I found her and her character better in earlier years, when she had most of her scenes with her brother and family, so maybe I'm biased.
Also, Kat is definitely the best/most believable crier in the whole cast, and since about half of her scenes depicted her in a moment of distress, that's a plus as well. She also looks very pretty doing it, for some unfair reason.

There's still so much I'm angry about, but this rant is long enough already ;)

(Btw, how do you feel about the movie?)

Dude, I'm also really f*&Q#$ing sorry to have not replied to this. I had actually typed out an equally long response and livejournal didn't want to post it and I like the idiot I am didn't bother to copy and paste it just in case.
But to summarize I agreed strongly with all your points and tried to bring out some ideas and plot holes in Into the Corner.
So thank you for this comment :D
