Best Female Performance:
Kaya Scodelario
Lily Loveless
Kathryn Prescott
Meghan Prescott
Lisa Backwell
Klariza Clayton
Seeing as Naomily got the most screen time I'll have to consider them two, though I did like Meghan and Lisa and Kaya and even Klariza. Everyone was solid this episode. Kathryn unfortunately didn't do all that much except be adorable and hot at the same time and cry. That's bout it. The thing about Lily this episode, though, I don't know if anyone else noticed or were just too flabbgergasted by how pretty she is, but she was weak this time, guys. She was really, really weak. I can't explain it; I didn't believe her for a second. It was all just...Lily acting as Naomi. Maybe Naomi's just changed too much I can't even identify who she is anymore. Possibly. But she had admittedly won me over with her speech at the end. I'm pretty sure she's won us all over.
Best Male Performance:
Merveille Lukeba
Jack O'Connell
Ollie Barberi
Wow that is...extremely depressing that there's supposed to be another guy there but there ain't. Alright, clearly I'm going this award to Jack of course. No one even compares to his acting ability on this show. This guy's gonna go far. And if he doesn't, I shall be a very sad camper indeed.
Best Smexy Moment:
Cook/Arsia in the morning
Karen 4/5th naked
Emily/Mandy kiss
Naomi/Mandy dance
Katie/Thomas kiss
Naomi 5/5 naked on bed
Emily/Naomi kiss
I wouldn't describe Cook/Arsia in the morning being sexy so much as it was hilarious that it wakes Emily up. Also: Throwback to Series 3x01 of Cook's 'Grab my balls, grab my balls!' was pretty funny too. Especially since that was with Effy and cleary Arsia looks a teeny bit like Effy. But only a little.
Karen half naked? Yes, I do suppose it was smexy. Unnecessary, though, why did she have to be half-naked? Also: Never in my life have I ever entered my brother's room half naked, nor would I rest on his bed half naked either. Maybe they just have that close kind of relationship we're lacking? Just me? Okay, just me.
Emily/Mandy kiss? Just going to reiterate Emily's word: 'Don't' I don't care of Mandy's a good egg, which apparently she is, I still don't like her. And yes. This is without a doubt me being bias and it's unfair but oh well. Rules don't seem to apply when it comes to Emily Fitch and I and that rhymes so it must be the law.
Naomi/Mandy dance was tension-filled and awkward and Naomi needs to stop being stoned. These crazy kids.
Katie/Thomas kiss was sad. Very sad. I don't know why they had to do that to Katie. I guess it makes me feel better that at least they've ended her on the right track: She'll start looking for the good guys now :)
Naomi naked on the bed was not smexy. Sorry guys. It will be in zee heartbreak section, though.
Clearly this award goes to the Emily/Naomi kiss and hug. Although I wouldn't describe it a smexy, it was heart tugging and romantic and wonderful so that's all that matters, right?
Best New Character:
Arsia
Mandy
New!Karen
Arsia Arsia Arsia. Hmm. Sspretty name. Not so pretty personality.
Mandy you....you physically turn me off. I don't know why. You just do. Slash get away from Emily.
Let's give this award to the New and Improved Karen who actually makes sense in their group, possibly more than Freddie. See Freddie? She's not a funsponge.
Most Unnecessary Scene:
Thomas
Naomi/Mandy Dance
Naomi/Mandy dancing was horribly awkward, clearly for all three of them, Emily included. They're all just messes and it was painful and Naomi was high so it was just...it was just odd. It was just odd. It confused me greatly.
But this award goes to Thomas. I really didn't enjoy Thomas's scenes. We're just watching him run. I mean come on. I don't care. I'm sorry, Thomas, but I just..I really really really don't care about where you go.
Best Entrance:
John T. Bastard
Naomi
John T. Bastard showing up and popping into Effy's room or popping in on Cook is terrifying. The guy is so fucking terrifying. In that sense, well done skins, mission accomplished. In another sense, holy shit, get the hell out of this series, man, you're so damn creepy!!
This award must go to Naomi's entrance to Freddie's shed. Mostly because of the hair. I love how it's curled. I mean I don't? Because I personally think Loveless looks better with straight hair but just the idea that Naomi curled it is enough for me. Just imagine a nervous, shaking Naomi doing her hair up, whispering this speech to Emily under her breath. All this preparation, so many intricate details. You'd be surprised just how...self aware of your appearance you are before you're about to do something that really, won't be influenced by what you're wearing at all. I loves it. Loves it, I say! Award to Naomi!
Best Line:
"I'm not mental!" -Panda
"I'd take you. We'd go dancing, sleep in a hut. I'd make love to you on the beach. Isn't that what you want?" -Mandy to Emily
"So do I, Fredds. So do I." -Cook
"I've loved you from the first time I saw you. I think I was twelve." -Naomi to Emily
"You were trying to punish me and it's horrible...it's horrible...because really...I'd die for you. I love you. I love you so much, and it's killing me." -Naomi to Emily
"I'm a fucking waste of space. I'm just a stupid kid. I've got no sense. Criminal. No fucking use, mate. I am nothing. So please - please - get it into your, you know, into your bonce: That you killed my friend. And....I'm Cook. I'M COOK"-Cook to Bastard
Flying fucks, my friend. The dialogue of this series murders me.
Panda's line was hilarious. Love her love her love her. So rude and so innocent at the same time.
Mandy's line to Emily I actually quite liked. I mean it's a typical throwback to Sid and Tony/Michelle. Mandy may or may not be better for Emily, but the fact is that 'what Emily wants' is Naomi. Through thick and thin, Sid/Mandy, they just. don't. want you. Maybe they should. But they don't.
Cook's line to the sky to Freddie about Effy is just plain horrible. See more below.
Cook's final lines to John T Bastard? Also see more below.
Naomi loving Emily from the first moment she saw her will be fic'd by yours truly. There. I said it. Now I have to buckle down and write it :P
And so clearly this award goes to those final last sentences from Naomi to Emily. Not the entire speech, no. Just that last bit. It's just kind of...speaking as a flair of a Naomi character, it's like digging a knife into your stomach and twisting it around. That's how it felt. "You're kiling me. I love you so much you're killing me." It's just like the locker scene, but even moreso because hell she made Naomi say it, outloud. "I love you so much I would fucking die for you, and fuck I already am."
Best Costuming:
Panda
Cook
The reason why I put Cook up there is because I think it's quite nice how he wails on John T. Bastard in Freddie's shirt.
But this award goes to Panda. Because I love her. and beacuse it's quite obvious how people would think she is mental and belongs on a bouncy ball.
Most HeartBreaking Scene:
Naomi on bed with Emily's shirt
Cook with Freddie's diary
Cook with Freddie's diary and just..breaking down, "So do I, Fredds, so do I" is terrible. It's there, written down, over and over and over, the many reasons why Cook can't be happy: Because Freddie loves her. And yeah, Cook does too. But that just...doesn't matter. It just doesn't matter if Cook loves her or not. I think that's terrible. It's not that no one cares. It's that it doesn't matter.
But the award must go to Naomi naked on the bed with Emily's shirt, because it is just plain horrendous. It's worsened even moreso by the fact that she's naked. She's stripped. Defenseless. Freezing cold. Naked. and useless. There's nothing left to do but hold onto the scraps you're allowed to have. Only thing worse would be to add an apple in there and oh god, she's Cassie V2.0. No but for serious, Naomi gripping, spooning and crying against an imaginary Emily is heartbreaking.
Most Missed Character:
Katie
Panda
Gina Campbell
I am so angered that Thomas got so much damn screen time. Of him just running. I mean come on. And he got more screen time than Panda. I don't know why, when, and who decided Thomas was more interesting than Panda. But fuck that, man. Bullshit. I miss Panda!
Katie I feel has been cheated out of this episode, too. Where's she living? What happens to her, what about this Thomas situation? It's all good? Bullshit once again.
But this award will go to Gina Campbell. Mostly because clearly she doesn't know about Naomi/Emily/Sophia and I would have thought Naomi would call her up to talk about it, since they'd gotten closer at the end of S3. I liked her. She was quirky and funny and innapropriate and wise. [Taken from my Naomi/Emilymind: It also implies that clearly Naomi hasn't tried everything to win Emily back. And that saddens me.]
Best Emotional Outburst:
End
I think it's clear enough why this outburst is the best, I mean it's just full-on Cook raging towards the one guy I'm pretty sure is now the most hated character on skins. The buildup is incredible, and it's sold mainly because of Jack's portrayal. He's just calmly letting John T. Bastard finish up everything he has to say, nodding the entire time, letting the reality of the situation sink in. He's got that...there's that tiny glimmer of realization in his eyes right after Bastard says, "I do [deserve Effy]" and he realizes You killed him. and it's just...He goes into his speech so calmly. That's what's so great about Cook, he can keep it all bottled up, so dangerously, and let you know when to not push him. As for the speech itself, I mean it's clearly the best. He's done. He doesn't have Effy, he doesn't have JJ dependant on him anymore, he doesn't have family, he doesn't have school, and he's going to stay as far away from Paddy as possible. And so the only he does have left is Freddie. And you killed him. And...he's Cook, man. He's Cook, and you killed Freddie.
I'M COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!!!!
Gotta love it.
Most Touching Family Scene:
Panda/Katie/Effy song
Karen/JJ/Cook dance
There weren't any actual families but the friends came together for this episode so I liked it. I quite like that. I know people miss Gen 1 and how they were a bunch of good friends and it's about their two years together and then heartbreaking goodbyes after high school but to be quite honest that would have been boring if Gen 2 was the same. People would complain about that, too. You've got to mix it up a bit. I like that this generation's a bit disconnected, but connected when it counts. Besides there are some significantly sweet and strong bonds: Freddie/Cook/JJ, Cook/Naomi, Panda/Effy, Effy/Naomi.
Anyway. Moving on. So I really liked the trio singing that song, so much more than JJ's. It was just so innocent and loving and adorable; Music being the universal language and all. I think it's one of those classic SimpleHappyFriendship moments that skins does so well. I mean...how can you listen/look at Lisa and not smile like a total fucking idiot? I swear to god that girl and I are going to be the bestest of mates. It's just what's going to happen.
But seeing as it then swerves to John T. Bastard scaring the crap out of me, this award goes to the Karen/JJ/Cook dance. because it was fucking hilarious and I wanted to dance along.
Actually no. No, I take it back. Give it back to the girls. Sorry. It's just too damn adorable.
Wait, wait. What?:
School
Credits
Babes, I thought we wanted to go to Mexico.
But....I don't think you understand.....I love you...
I only want sympathy in the form of you crawlin into bed with me.
What. is up with this series and school? It's not important at all anymore! Where is everybody going? Naomi's heading to London, where's Emily? Where's Katie going? Where's JJ? What the fuck, man. I know everyone's been dealing with crap and drama but COME ON.
In other news, I don't know how they decide who to show when during the credits. In order of talent? Alphabetical? Appearance? Hotness? Popularity? I 've tried them all; I haven't figured it out yet! This is how they rolled:
Merveille Lukeba
Kathryn Prescott
Lily Loveless
Lisa Backwell
Jack O'Connell
Megan Prescott
Ollie Barbieri
Kaya Scodelario
Luke Pasqualino
If someone could tell me, that would be a great help. Becuse honestly I've exhausted all possibilities in my head.
Goa and Mexico are two very different places. What the hells is going on here. Shiiiiiiit son, Emily shoulda been all up on Mandy, slap her and be all 'bitch i aint goin to no goa wid u, i wonted 2 go 2 mehiko wid naomizi' Yes. That's exactly how it should have gone down.
Freddie's journal with the constant 'I love her I love her I love her' was damn creepy, man. It's just. plain. Creepy. It's not sweet. It's. NOT. SWEET. And if any girl out there says it is, I slap you silly, my friend. I slap you silly and shake you to sense. Katie shoulda been all up in his grillz, been all, 'Fuck, fredds, u gotta get a hold on urself ur so fuking helpless like a useless awkward turtle" Yes. That's how that should have gone do-Oooooh, he's dead. Nevermind.
But this award must and will go to the lack of Naomily. Well firstly the lack of Naomi. What the fuck is happening here, man. Why does Naomi not get her own fucking episode. There is no...there is absolutely no sense in that. That is such codswallop. And yes I learnt that from Harry Potter. But seriously what the shit is going on here. Panda gets knocked out, fine, I guess. She was in series 2 and 3. Fine. FINE, if you fucking must, skins. But Thomas gets an episode? THOMAS? THIS IS NAOMI WE'RE TALKING ABOUT. She was the second favourite character of the third series, above Effy, above Katie, above FREDDIE, WHO YOU KILLED. This is such crap. This is bullshit.
Okay, and aside from not having enough Naomi, what the hell is going on here with Emily/Naomi. I loved the apology and reconciliation, don't get me wrong, but...but....why there no sex scene? THERE I SAID IT. Or at least something more..personal. I don't know. *sigh* I don't know. I feel cheated on. No pun intended.
And now....the entire Series 4 Awards: Who's won the most and for what?
Best Female Performance
Kaya Scodelario (3)
Lily Loveless (2)
Kathryn Prescott (1)
Georgia Henshaw (1)
Megan Prescott (1)
Klariza Clayton (0)
Lisa Backwell (0)
Doesn't surprise me, really. Kaya's got the most experience, best grip on her character and most screen time of all the girls. Well done.
Best Male Performance
Jack O'Connell (5)
Merveille Lukeba (1)
John Bishop (1)
Ollie Barbieri (1)
Simon Day (0)
Luke Pasqualino (0)
Again no surprises here. Jack is clearly above and beyond.
Best Smexy Moments
Naomi/Emily (3)
Cook (2)
Freddie/Effy (1)
Katie (1)
Emily (1)
I suppose this is surprising, especially since I just ranted about how there wasn't enough Naomi/Emily but clearly three episodes had the best smexy scenes with them. So...excellent. Mwuahahhaha.
Best New Character
Thomas's Sister
Matt Moore
Paddy Cook
Tough Love
Liam
Pato
New!Karen
I'm going to have to give this final final final award to Pato. Clearly the most dependant of all characters we've seen on skins, both generations and all four series combined.
Most Unnecessary Scenes Contained:
JJ (2)
Freddie/Effy (1)
Freddie (1)
Thomas (1)
Emily (1)
Andrea (1)
So that looks like it's JJ. But to be fair, it looks like there's two Freddie scenes, too. So let's just say clearly the two characters Series 4 could have done without are Freddie and JJ.
Best Entrances
Cook (4)
Emily (2)
Effy (1)
Naomi (1)
It's funny that these are my favourite characters of Series 4, missing Katie. But I guess that's just how it works. These characters had the best scene entrances, and that's the writers' prize: They clearly wrote these four the best and most dynamic.
Best Lines
Naomi (2)
Katie (2)
Cook (1)
T. Love (1)
Panda (1)
JJ's mother Celia (1)
I'm not really surprised about this one, either. Naomi and Katie are the cheekiest characters and always have incredible witty things to say. No doubt in my mind they would have the best lines.
Best Costuming
Cook (2)
Freddie (1)
Emily (1)
Katie (1)
Panda (1)
Everyone but Freddie (1)
JJ (1)
Pretty well spread out, save for Freddie. The costume department was really on the ball this series, I was extremely impressed with every episode. They even got Freddie dead on. I just don't like his style. But it was well done.
Most HeartBreaking Scenes Involved:
Naomi (2)
Naomi/Emily (1)
Cook (1)
Effy (1)
JJ (1)
Freddie (1)
Katie (1)
Meaning The Loveless was on a roll this series. Clearly. I mean, come on, the girl is such a mess. I find that interesting though. When I look back on Series 4 I think immediately of Cook, or Katie, or Effy. But I guess solitary moments were more effective in each series, and Naomi does get a happy ending.
Most Missed Characters:
Katie (5)
Emily (1)
Karen (1)
Gina Campbell (1)
Clearly Katie was still underused in this series, I don't think that needs to be reiterated. Also Panda. I'm surprised Panda never even won once for any of the episodes, because oh god I missed her so so so so much. I mean, come on, "I might have done some exams without telling anyone" ? More like you've been living your life and everyone else has been too caught up in their own bullshit to care about you
Best Emotional Outbursts from:
Cook (3)
Effy (2)
Katie (1)
JJ (1)
Thomas (1)
Clearly this means those two crazy kids (no pun intended Effy) should be together. Hey skins. Get on that. No, but clearly I still don't understand why Kaya would rather take The Loveless's storyline, I think her arc is dynamic and gripping, clearly shown here by the stats. This is me not commenting on the obvious epicness of Cook and his outbursts.
Most Touching Family Scenes:
Emily/Rob (1)
Cook/Paddy (1)
Fitch Family (1)
Freddie/Karen (1)
Celia/Edward Jones (1)
Cook/Effy (1)
Panda/Katie/Effy (1)
Yayyyyy, all different awards to all different kinds of families. That's what's so great about skins, kids: Family is where the heart is. Just like Series 2 family moments would go to Michelle/Jal. In my opinion
Wait. Wait: WHAT? Awards dealt with:
Naomi (3)
Freddie (3)
Katie (1)
Thomas (1)
Yeah. That sounds about right, too. Too much bullshit with Freddie. Not enough time for actual, real bullshit with Naomi.
And so my friends: Consider Series 4 wrapped. I have closure. Apologies to those who feel as though they don't. But I feel alright.
