(no subject)
For Those of you who haven't heard, I got into my top choice school NYU and plan on going there if I can scroung up, oh, say 160,000 dollars or so. I'm pretty proud of getting in seeing as it's somewhere that I've fantasized about going even before this whole college process began and located in a city I adore.
There are other reasons that I'm proud of getting in. See I got into NYU, Boston University, U.C. Berkeley, and University Of Washington, some of the finest institutions in this country, without going through the bullshit that seems to prevail in modern American middle class culture. I didn't go to a special prep elementry school, so I could go to a special prep middle school that would prepare me for the awesome Prep High School that I would need to be presentable to college. My parents didn't need to spend thousands of dollars a year so I could go to school with rich assholes. We didn't hire any fancy personal statement tutors (ok, SAT tutor, but for a short time and that reasoning math shit is gay anyways). I wrote my personal statement about how I like to read books by Robert Stone or watch movies by Oliver Stone. Some over-stressed loser at CPS doesn't have the time to read books by Robert Stone 'cause he's spending all his time doing mounds of homework that aren't teaching him shit, but letting the school prove itself as "rigerous". Fuck that shit. I didn't sacrifice my life to an instrument or a sport. Didn't work to get on some bullshit "leadership" position as to make myself look better or join some extracarricular activites I had no interest in save build up a resumé. Didn't kill myself over not having A's all the time. I just did my best and told it straight to the colleges I applied to.
Ok, that was a little biased, but oh wells. whoo, got in college.
