Ah, the first day of actual spring weather hit Greely like a big ol' sack of crap. The temperature must be well above 70, since I am actually sweating when I go outside, and you can just imagine what the breeze wafting in from the stockyards smells like.
I guess they decided to once again try to grow cement trees this year. As you may or may not know, UNC is home to some of the best watered sidewalks in America. I was attacked by a sprinkler on my way to Econ this afternoon, and though it was refreshing, I was somewhat annoyed.
Apart from the heat (in Greeley there is never a mild day. Its either freeze-your-balls-off cold or melt-your-ass-off hot) and constant sprinkler assaults, the change of seasons has many positive side effects:
1) FRISBEE!!- With the warmer weather, people are just dying to spend as much time outside as possible. There is never a shortage of folks up for a game of 'bee (or soccer, for that matter).
2) Smaller class sizes- Over the past week, my Econ class attendance has dropped from 75% to about 30% on any given Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Why? Who knows. Maybe they're all off playing frisbee.
3) Green- People were starting to get bummed out by all the browns, whites, and grays winter brings. Its nice to have some color again.
There is, however, a menagerie of undesirable qualities:
1) Finals- As finals season starts, everyone starts stressing about tests and papers, which decreases the level of enjoyment from any recreational activity exponentially. While enjoying the sun, having a picnic out on Turner Green, my companions constantly comment, "I should be studying right now," or "I have a term paper to write." I guess I was lucky enough to get classes where papers are not required and tests can be taken sufficiently without study.
2) Spring Fever- This is especially a problem in non-academic classes like Choir. None of the guys (me included) want to work on our 167 page piece for the end of the year extravaganza. Every day before class, we beg Darrough for a "Men's Glee Frisbee Day." That request has yet to be granted.
Overall, I am happy spring has finally sprung.
