Spinning, everything was spinning.

Alex was no longer seventeen; he was no longer with Jack in his parent's house. He had no idea what or where he was.

Whirls of color, scenery and sound were passing by him. As they flew, he could make out the images of himself, of Jack. They were still in their band, playing on stage. They were cuddling, watching movies. Jack was at the shelter with Alex, helping him pick out a dog to take home. Jack was kissing Alex, his hands sliding lower on his waist.

“I must be watching my new life flash by,” he thought to himself.

Alex, Jack, Rian and Zack were having a band meeting; Rian was saying he needed to leave the band to spend more time with his wife and new baby. They decided to break up mutually, to establish different, more routine lives.

The images were moving so fast, Alex’s eyes couldn’t keep up with them anymore. The sounds of voices and laughter increased in volume until they were deafening. It became too much, and he grew dizzy. Making a sound of distress, he closed his eyes, and everything went dark and silent.

He opened his eyes again.

This time he was back in his bedroom, the sun still filtering brightly through the window. But there were changes- his sheets were different, there was different furniture.

“I must be awake for real,” he thought.

Something was moving next to him, rustling the sheets. Alex froze in fear. After a heartbeat, he glanced over to the other side of the bed. His heart jumped.

Jack was in bed next to him, still fast asleep, but newly turned over. His hair was in disarray, and his hand was on the bed a few inches short of Alex’s body, as if he had fallen asleep with his arm around him. His mouth was wide open, and he snored lightly.

Alex laughed silently at his adorable boyfriend. He was so happy, he was crying.

A dog came in the room, and jumped on the bed. Jack awoke with a start.

“Oh, Peyton, it’s only you.” Smiling to himself, he turned and saw Alex’s tears. Expression changing, he reached out and wiped them away with his thumb.

“Babe, what’s wrong?”

Alex couldn’t do anything but just stare, the tears clogging his throat. He reached up and wove his fingers in with Jack’s.

Jack squeezed his hand, concerned. “Did you have a bad dream or something?”

Alex shook his head. “No,” he whispered. “It was the best dream in the whole world.”
