Three trips to Ontario this year (and staying in three different places, all told) really made me aware of how hard it is to get my tea Just Right anywhere but in my own kitchen. I tend to oversweeten my tea when I'm on anyone else's turf, even when I consciously try not to. Partly it's that
scruloose and I buy sugar that's a bit less refined than standard white sugar (I can't remember if it's actually "raw", and I'm not going downstairs to check the label), and I think the size difference in the sugar grains throws me off, but mainly it's that I'm used to my own mugs, so even when I pour my own water for tea elsewhere (I tend to overfill my mugs, once the milk is in too), I never quite get the proportions right.
scruloose and I got home safe tonight after a not-too-long day in transit, and we ordered pizza rather than trying to assess what we actually have on hand. (I did cleverly make sure to freeze some of the banana-chocolate chip muffins I like to have for breakfast, and the day before we left on this trip
scruloose picked up a small carton of milk for me, so there was milk for my tea when we got home.) And then there was some unpacking, and then...! TEA.
The milk is from the one of the three main local dairies that we most rarely buy from, and it always weirds me out a little because the expiry dates on the cartons are so much further away than the equivalent dates for the other two dairies' milk. But in this case it works out. (This carton's expiry date is in September. O_O)
The cats are glad to see us, but Jinksy, in particular, is a bit skittish. Poor kitties. (As of half an hour ago, Claudia was hanging out on the bed with a sleeping
scruloose, which isn't her norm.) I haven't picked either of them up at all, because my tattoo aftercare says to keep it away from contact with pets for the duration of the healing process (which is at least two weeks).
I'm borrowing some of
scruloose's old shirts for the first few days, at least, including for sleeping tonight. He has some worn long-sleeved silk shirts that are nice and loose on me and will hopefully not be too stifling in the humidity. (The weather system that was in Toronto last night is rolling through here overnight and tomorrow. Naturally.) This seems like a better choice than "t-shirt + arm warmer", which was my first thought.
