Updates on a couple of minor things, and the story of a day ending in Starcraft (viewing)

--Having snarked the other day that--SHOCKINGLY--neither
DropboxSupport nor
Dropbox had replied to my "is anyone actually looking into this glitch that's apparently been a known issue for a year and a half?" question, I must duly note that
DropboxSupport did later reply, asking me to get in touch via the website support form and then DMing them my email address so they could match my tweets to my submitted info. They've since verified that they've connected those things, and "an agent will follow up by email". Fingers crossed!

--Chaos Choreography is out today! I...do not have it. Only one of the Indigo/Chapters chain of stores in the area had copies as of today, and it's not a remotely convenient location for me or anyone I know. But Amazon.ca does have it in stock, and Kas' Prime membership hasn't expired yet, so he ordered copies for himself, me, and
wildpear. They've shipped and should be here Friday. So I'm still in limbo re: what to read at the moment, but at least it shouldn't be too long a wait.
Today Ginny and I went to the Chinese bakery downtown that offers dim sum, and while it turned out not to be a great option for her, since she's a vegetarian (so this outcome wasn't really shocking), both the char siu bao and the pork and cilantro dumplings I had were very tasty. Pumpkin is very fond of both dumplings and shrimp (and IIRC there were a couple of dumpling options with shrimp), so perhaps she'll have to be taken there sometime. ^_^

The plan was to have a workdate after that, and we tried, but we went to a coffeeshop instead of the library and didn't get much work done. When it became obvious that neither of us were making much progress, I made an alternative proposal, which Ginny accepted: we swung by the optometrist to get my glasses tightened, and then came back to my &
scruloose's place, where she helped me sort through and cull my footwear. On the upside, I basically got rid of half of my footwear; on the downside, only one or two of the culled pairs are in any shape to be donated. :/ Ah, well. At least there's a lot more room in the front hallway closet now.

Around when
scruloose was getting home from work, Ginny took out her laptop and launched Starcraft II (Terran campaign) to show me how quickly it starts up now that her computer has more RAM.

By the time Kas was off work and had come over, Ginny had been playing and I'd been watching for maybe an hour. They were here until maybe 9:30, and other than a break for supper, she played straight through and I spent most of that time happily watching and itching to finally get the game installed on Mahir. (Mahir has a Windows partition, which I think I've literally never logged into since I got him and
scruloose did the dual-boot installation. I don't even think Firefox is configured. *pokes tags* I've had Mahir since November 2013.)

Our Starcraft lineage is unbroken: I got into playing after a summer watching
scruloose and M (
wildpear's husband) play (which would've been back in...1998?), and Ginny got into it from watching me play a few years ago now. And I can only assume that Kas and M spent a lot of time playing together back in the day.

Anyway, I love the Terran campaign in Starcraft II, and was hugely excited for the Zerg campaign, since they were always my favorite race to play in Starcraft and Brood War...but while I mostly enjoyed the Zerg campaign (which came out in March 2013), I didn't love it, and then Casual Job started up for a session when I was still a handful of levels away from the end...and I never got back to it. When the Protoss campaign (the final installment) came out a few months ago, I didn't even bat an eye. I'm not sure I'll ever buy it. (The Protoss were always my least-favorite to play, and there are some levels in the other SCII campaigns where you play as the Protoss, so I already know SCII's changes didn't magically make me love them.) But after an evening watching Ginny go at it, I'm suddenly inclined to finally install both campaigns (and the original games) on Mahir and play again--which probably means playing right through the Terran campaign from the start, and definitely means restarting the Zerg campaign, since I didn't find most of the changes to them for SCII very intuitive (whereas the changes for the Terrans were almost all fantastic).

We'll see how that all goes.

It also means it's been at least that many years since I last played the original game/Brood War, and while I think the SCII Terran gameplay is wonderful, I don't know if it'll replace my love of the original game. And I suspect the original Zerg will always be the Starcraft of my heart.
