Can anyone help
thatyourefuse out? She's run into some financial issues and is
looking for advice on freelance editing/proofing:What I need to know right this second is how to start picking up freelance proofreading/editing gigs in a serious hurry, and what I ought to be charging; I don't have really any paid experience or references, but I've been draft reading for friends for years, and I'm pretty sure people who know me can vouch that I have or can quickly acquire the skillset (hell, show me where to find a manual and I'll fucking teach myself MLA style if I have to). The question of how much to charge is also pretty urgent, as I genuinely don't have the first clue -- I don't want to overcharge given my lack of formal experience, but I also don't want to undercut the market, since that's kind of a dick move.
I will also take pointers towards slush-reading gigs for any kind of professional or semi-professional market, even if they're unpaid; it pays off in resume points, and social services will probably count it as volunteer work.
