Account management, the mildly neurotic edition

Sep 17, 2015 11:54

It's a minor frustration in the grand scheme, but I was just tidying my LiveJournal lists (mostly removing communities that are inactive or that I haven't paid attention to in ages, but I also finally unfollowed the LJ accounts of some people I talk to solely here on Dreamwidth), and I really wish there were a way to remove accounts/communities that subscribed to me or I was part of when they were deleted/purged. Since they're GONE, there's no one on the other end to evict them from my list. >.< So cluttery!

I keep thinking about going through both LJ and DW and removing inactive accounts from my lists, which I know people do all the time, but it's proving surprisingly difficult (even though, yes, I know one can always make a public note about "if you're actually lurking and just haven't posted/commented where I can see you for the last [x] years, let me know"). Sentimental value in some cases, for people I once chatted with often but haven't talked to in literally years, but also, I can't help thinking but what if they have their account set to email when someone unsubcribes, and it's someone I like who happens to have abandoned the site completely for other online pastures, and getting the email makes them sad? (This extends to icon/fic/rec accounts of people I know and like who haven't updated those accounts in years and years, whether or not they've maintained a personal account. *facepalm*)

Maybe I'll get to it. We'll see.
