My Ginny is home safe, although her trip home took a few hours longer than expected despite the fact that she was scheduled to reach Toronto ahead of some incoming snow, and (clearly) left us well before tomorrow's predicted heavy rainfall, and despite not having to change planes. :/ I think the delay was as long as or longer than the actual flight ( Read more... )

Glad Ginny got back okay, but such a delay! Was she stuck on the plane that whole time? That's the worst.

I'm sure it's a fun time to be a weatherman right now. It was almost 50F here this morning, and now if it's 30 I'd be surprised. Starting after midnight we're supposed to get the crazy below zero temps they're having out in the Midwest today. Only one day back from Christmas break and I'm already hoping for a snow day. LOL!

I get the impression she was on the plane the whole time after boarding; I'm hoping that part of the delay happened before boarding, though. :/

Blizzards are rare in Halifax? My aunt-- who lived there through the last decades of the last century-- always implied that cars disappeared in snow around November and were then rediscovered the next April.

They certainly are now! We had a lot more snow when I was a little kid, but I don't have an accurate idea of how much. But for the last decade or more, we get a few significant snowfalls each winter and the rest of the time alternate between light snow and aggressive thaws, which leads to impressively dreadful slush sometimes.

But Halifax is also right on the water and not all that far north, so I think other parts of the province tend to get colder weather in general.
