So many of you replied to my question from last night that it seems like a good idea to just say "thank you" in a separate post rather than rephrase essentially the same thing 20+ ways. So: thank you for weighing in! It was interesting reading, and I was pleasantly surprised that basically everyone tries to read their entire flist.
I think I've gotten so used to Facebook's fuckery with making things vanish or appear out of order, or people being overwhelmed by Tumblr and declaring bankruptcy there, that it was a short jump from there to think it was likely the same story here. But Dreamwidth is still my core online home, so it's a good feeling to be reminded that so many of us are still here reading. (Also, it makes me feel a bit less obsessive about my need to not miss anything here. *g* Mind you, I also refused to declare Tumblr bankruptcy even during the three weeks we were in Japan last year, so that tells you something about how much I hate to miss things.)
To the people who mentioned time zones: I keep trying to calculate where people are, which is an exercise in futility since the only time zones I can jump between effortlessly are ours, Eastern, and the west coast (courtesy of nearly all my freelance work being based in California, which means I don't even need to think about it anymore when I'm sending emails to editors. There's a lot of "Well, it's 1 AM here, so it's 9 PM in LA, and I know so-and-so tends to work late, so it's probably still safe to send this even though it's Friday).
On an entirely different note, let me link you to
a SyFy promotional video for Warehouse 13. It's technically a refresher for people who're up to date, but roughly the first four of the five minutes don't have much in the way of spoilers--at which point the video says, in effect, "and now we're going to get you up to speed on season 4 so far!" and covers the main gist of the first half of S4 in spoilery detail.
So if you're willing to keep an eye on the time/keep an ear out for the voiceover saying "here's what's been going on lately" and stop watching then, it's a really great promotional piece.
scruloose and I both think it may be the best example of that sort of thing we've ever seen.
If you're at all curious about W13 and don't mind learning the names of characters who don't appear for a season or three, along with some implications about plot points, I encourage you to take a look.
Earlier today I was thinking about that first-lines meme again, and that made me think I might try to get in the habit of posting an extremely short excerpt from various works in progress each weekend or something. This could yet happen; true, it's only an hour until midnight here, but we've already established that time zones complicate that sort of thing anyway, so...we'll see. I obviously don't finish stories often, but WsIP I have an abundance of.
I like seeing the posting routines a lot of people get into, like everyone chatting about what they're reading on Wednesdays, so it might be nice to have a little routine as well. (I keep wanting to play with that weekly reading meme, but I've been reading so little lately that when Wednesday actually rolls around I usually don't feel like I have much to say. But I'm loving other people's posts about it.)
