Happy March! We're inching closer to spring. *^^*
I'm excited for this month, what with the new InCryptid novel (Midnight Blue-Light Special*) coming out next week, and Heart of the Swarm** (the StarCraft II Zerg campaign) coming the week after. (Barring massive fuckery on Blizzard's part, which I gather wouldn't be out of character even this late in the process.)
I also need to fill out my Hugo nominations ballot by the 10th. I have yet to figure out what, if anything, I'm nominating besides Blackout, so I guess I'd better get on that.
And I need to get a fair bit of freelance work done this month, since Casual Job is back in session on the 26th. I kind of wish it were starting earlier, since I'm really hoping it'll wrap up before I head to Toronto in May (so I don't spend my two weeks there crushed by guilt monkeys if the work is ongoing back here), but this is about what we expected, and we have even less idea than usual how long it'll actually last. So. Yay?
(If it winds up being really short, I'll probably get in touch with my former boss at Casual Job: Ontario Edition and see if they need help there. But I don't know what the odds are of it coming to that, much as I'd love an excuse to go live with Ginny for a month or so.)
I'd love to say that I'm going to do something with my hair this month, but I doubt it'll happen. I don't regret the buzz cut, and I was prepared for it to be annoying to grow out, but that doesn't make the annoyance any less. Mostly I'm just waiting for it to get long enough that I can go see my stylist and get her to do something with it. And somewhere in there I need to decide whether I'm going to go back to henna or switch to dye for the first time in several years, since I'm planning to keep my hair fairly short for the foreseeable future, which makes dye-induced damage less of a factor. (But then there's the way it makes hair feel, which is disgusting. But the color...!)
(Another relevant detail there is that the main reason I've been growing the buzz cut out is that I'm sick of my natural hair color.)
*Amazon.ca has had it in stock all week, and aargh, waiting to order it is so hard! But they've stocked it early, and my impression is that for whatever esoteric-and-probably-STUPID reason, when books get sold early they somehow don't count towards the first-week sales numbers. And those are really important. :/ So. No early book for me.
**I still love that Tricia Helfer was brought in to voice Kerrigan for SCII. The original actress was fine, but...Tricia Helfer!
I have half-written posts lying around in a file, and I never know quite what to do with them. What if I like what I have, but can't remember where I was going with it? ^^; (I suppose such things could be tagged accordingly.)
Trying to choose a specific fic to focus on writing is turning out to be tricky. I'd like to finish the Warehouse 13 fic I've been accidentally taunting Ginny with, but it's still percolating. The remaining obvious choices are all Newsflesh, and I think it's down to "the one where Georgia and Shaun meet Dave" (which may actually have a title!), "the one where Georgia [age 14] and their dad have a REALLY AWKWARD conversation over pancakes", and "that AU that can't be summed up outside a cut because it's too spoilery, but which will require a ton of work".
And one link, via Kas over on Tumblr: apparently there's going to be
some sort of live-action Portal-related webseries. Huh.
