I'm sure most of you have heard about
help_pakistan (an auction community raising aid money to send to Pakistan to help with the flooding), but if you haven't, there it is. I note that
kanata is offering both
translation and
scanlation services for doujinshi/song lyrics/single manga chapters.
Meanwhile, via
theferrett,
here is a photo gallery of buildings and businesses "the same distance from the World Trade Center as the 'Ground Zero Mosque'".
His post on the subject is good, too.

Yelp is kind of deadly. I've still only written one review, but over the last couple of days I've gone through and marked most of the places I visited in Toronto (old favorites and new-to-me spots alike) as "to review". I also wound up searching through the local listings and noting places to visit (as if the Visa's going to allow for that in the next little while!), prompted by hearing that a new Chinese place is opening downtown and that a Szechuan place we've enjoyed for years is closing this month. (By "we" I mainly mean
scruloose and many of our friends, including
ginny_t--my low tolerance for heat keeps me from being a huge Szechuan fan, but I'm very sad to see the Hungry Chilli go.)
From the same source, I discovered that we have a
community supported fishery now, which apparently works on a model similar to CSAs. We eat hardly any fish/seafood, largely because I couldn't eat it for so long (and am still wary), but that's just neat.
Via Twitter, I came across this post:
Scott Pilgrim vs. Food. "Compiled here is every panel of Scott Pilgrim in which someone is eating or talking about food (not drinks)."
Tomorrow
scruloose and I are heading downtown to check out the new farmers' market location with
bosonator, who's already been; it opened while we were away, and we hear frightening things about the number of people despite the fact that a key reason for the new market building was due to how many people crammed themselves into the old location (which is still open to some extent, since some vendors chose not to move). I wonder how the number of marker-goers will compare once the novelty wears off.
