General-purpose geekery and a very little bit of manga talk

I need to remember that the reason I never look at ThinkGeek is because no site has the right to be that tempting when almost everything there is targeted at people whose flavors of geekery are entirely different from mine. (I usually say that I'm a well-rounded geek who does everything but role-play. This is blatantly untrue--it's just that I think of computer geeks and their ilk* as an entirely different species of geek.)

* I'm deeply saddened by how common the negative interpretation of "ilk" is. The original meaning is grand, and almost never useful these days. Alas.

*laughs* I searched for the definition link after writing the above comment, and am amused that the most useful one--that very link!--notes that "It is often used to mean 'of the same name or family' or 'of the same type' [...] Strictly speaking this is incorrect, and some Scots object to it quite strongly." Well, I'm objecting to the negativity, not the general inaccuracy, but...

I (obviously) don't comment on new NANA chapters often, but the last one I read (73, I think) was wonderful. (And all kinds of heartbreaking, but that's normal for NANA when it's on a good roll.) So many things happened! *head spins*

And I keep forgetting to mention that Adam blogged his first impressions of Hoshi wa Utau over at Completely Futile (just volume one; includes spoilers).
