Ranka's roll in the movie differs little from the earlier parts of the television series. She still has the connection to the Vajra, she's still a Sheryl fangirl, and she still has a huge crush on Alto. However, in the movie, she's known Alto for a while before the movie, most likely through her waitress and delivery work at a Chinese restaurant. It's also made explicit that both she and Sheryl are from Gallia 4, and that their families knew each other.

Further, her discovery didn't stem as much from the Miss Macross contest, and the 'Bird Human' movie isn't involved; rather, she was approached by a promoter after singing on the streets of the Zentradi shopping center on one of the fleet's islands.

[personality] Ranka is, at heart, very much a 'normal' teenaged girl - something that hasn't changed much fifty years in the future, in spite of all the wars and crossbreeding with giant aliens. She's energetic, emotional, and a little self-centered, and pays more mind to friends than family (i.e. her 'brother' Ozma). Not that she's a spoiled brat; in spite of an easy life, she's usually friendly and compassionate, and if she gets a little full of herself it only takes reminding her that she's doing it for her to correct herself. Despite being naive and just a bit shy, she likes people and is easy to befriend.

Underneath that, though, she has more troubles than the average girl. She has poor self-esteem, to the point where her number one passion - singing - is something she almost never does in front of even her closest friends. After all, she's a short, skinny little teenager not at all like the bombastic musicians who are famous throughout the galaxy. Alto is the one person able to fully motivate her, with his kind, if somewhat dim bluntness able to put things in perspective for her. Michael shows just how much she relies on Alto, when he tries to motivate her to sing on the street to prove her determination, and seeing Alto's paper airplane and remembering what he said provides the actual motivation on top of his idea.

In spite of her self-esteem and other trauma, though, Ranka is a force to be reckoned with once motivated. Much like a steam engine, pushing back against her stubbornness can be even harder than getting her to truly invest herself in the matter in the first place. Ranka is motivated by the things she cares about the most; she loves to sing, she loves her friends, and she loves people in general. Once she decides to actually try singing in front of others, to try and make a career of some kind, she becomes downright aggressive at the suggestion that she just can't do it, enough to throw kitchenware at Ozma and storm out of the house. Even more than that, though, she's perfectly willing to put herself in danger to protect others even when it's seemingly kind of insane; when she realizes that the Vajra might be after her, after remembering something her mother said when she was still very young, and after being inspired by Sheryl singing right through a Vajra attack, she rushes out into the open to get the Vajra's attention hoping that it will make them go away or something useful (it wasn't nearly as well thought out as it was gutsy).
[orientation] Totally in love with Alto, who, while very pretty, is male. Heterosexual judging by that.
[appearance] Really minor stuff. Her hair moves; usually it's just expressive, like a dog's ears when he's happy or sad, but she can move it herself. The age up is a small one, so the only changes are:
Slightly taller, by maybe 3-4 cm.
With this, and with the barest hint of a curvier figure, slightly heavier than her official weight.

[wish] She's wishing for Ozma and Alto to be safe and sound every time they sortie.
[requested house] Sazanka

Network Post, Video:
[ The small, green-haired girl on the Fansuwoth fidgeted. In the time between deciding to try and socialize with people more and actually getting there, she'd already lost half her nerve to go through with it.

She had to though, really. It wasn't like she could ignore every single person in Ukiyo other than Alto and Sheryl and still get by, and as intimidating as it is, there are sure to be many nice people here.

Ranka nods her head once, her hair seeming to lift a little like a dog's ears. ]

Um... I was wondering... what is that people do around here?

[ Well, they have lots of sex. She blushes. ]

I-I mean aside from their work! For fun... what do people do for fun when they aren't working?

[ Hopefully someone would be interested enough to actually respond to her. ]

Smut:
Ranka writhed under the body on top of her. She wasn't afraid, and she wasn't trying to escape, but on her knees beneath a person she didn't really know, it struck her how vulnerable she was. Even if her body responded to the hands curling under her, gently fondling her small breasts, this wasn't a performance she could put her heart into, not when her mind said that it should be Alto.

Despite that, it's what she had to do, and she knew how to act. The singer's moans were convincing as she pressed herself against those hands,
