[personality] At first impression, Cagalli comes off as a very angry young woman. She loses her temper easily, even when she's trying to be diplomatic - even with Durandal, a man of similar influence to her own position, she spoke with harsh words and raised voice. Her tendency to act before thinking has lead to her both causing and experiencing a great deal of trouble, even when her risks pay off. She impulsively leaps into the thick of things any time she thinks she can help, hijacking a Skygrasper or getting into a mobile suit the moment it looks like she can help out by doing so, regardless of what others think is a good idea. Later experience tempers this, but doesn't eliminate it by a long shot.
Cagalli's temper is just one facet of the fact that she is an extremely emotional person. Highly excitable, her good moods are extremely good, and her bad moods bring her to tears with less prompting than many. While she shows at least sufficient restraint when she absolutely has to, her defenses drop quickly around close friends. Her moodiness does affect her position, however - her youth and moodiness are a difficult hurdle for someone in a political position.
Despite her mood swings and temper, Cagalli is extremely kind and giving at heart. She's quick to apologize once she realizes that she's gone too far, and isn't afraid to be pushy when trying to smooth over relationships - like Athrun's and Kira's conflict, or heading into a battle solely in an attempt to make her troops back down from a battle. While quick to enter a battle, she hates wars and fighting, and fights to end things as quickly as she can. She forgives and makes friends easily even after a rocky start as long as the other party is willing and... not a total jerk like Fllay. However, as friendly as she is, romance is often beyond her - Athrun's sappiness often leaves her a blushing stuttering mess, and any PDA sets her to flailing.
The strongest motivators behind who Cagalli is and what she does are her country and her family. Her relationship with all of these is often strained, but her love for her father, her brother, and her people often push her to recklessness. Losing her father to war and watching Orb burn at the age of sixteen left a permanent mark on her, one that prompted her to move into her father's position of Chief Representative to prevent future destruction. Limited contact with Kira, Athrun's return to ZAFT, the colony drop of Junius Seven's remains, and the loss of her government's support in favor of the corrupt Seiran family pushed her into further trauma through Destiny. She removes the ring Athrun gave her, and by the end of the war is no longer entering battle in any capacity, remaining in Orb in an attempt to bring some stability to it. By the epilogue in Final Plus, she is still in the position of Chief Representative, and is at the very least on good terms with Kira, Athrun, and Lacus at this point.
