Feeling the need to moan

I've just had a home visit from my midwife to go through my birth plan. I can have a water birth at Salisbury District Hospital - hooray! I hadn't even wanted one until watching a DVD at the NHS classes last night, and now the idea of a water birth (or at least water labour) seems really, really appealing. So now, according to my brand new birth plan, I've gone from "give me the druuuuugs!" to "I'll have a hippy, natural birth please". Midwife was very supportive, and I'm not ruling out any form of pain relief or other medication, but I've put down my preferences for water and gas and air only, and a natural placenta delivery.

The bad news is that baby is now breech. Baby was breech three weeks ago, possibly cephalic two weeks ago, and today definitely breech but with a good heart beat and wriggling away, so obviously happy! Plus I've been measuring slightly above average bump-size all along, and today bump has shot up to measuring above the 90% percentile - measuring 36 weeks now when I'm 34w 2d. Midwife has told me this *may* be due to the breech baby (but since it's been breech for possibly three weeks I'm not sure), but I may also be having Monster Giant Baby of Doom! Typical. I'm seeing midwife next week now to find out if baby has turned back round, and if not I'll have to see a doctor to discuss options, which may involve throwing out my lovely shiny new birth plan. :( I know it's too early to say for certain, and they may be able to manually turn baby around, but it's still kind of disheartening. On the plus side this might mean I can have a scan, which would give me another chance and finding the gender! It would be sort of temping to wait since I've had to wait this long and have got sort of used to the idea of it being a surprise, but now I'm buying clothes and bits and pieces I'm finding it frustrating to be buying everything in nice neutral cream and white. I'm not a massive advocate of blue for a boy, pink for a girl, but sometimes the limited choice in between is frustrating!

Ah well, one week before checking on progress. I better get sitting on that birthing ball!
