I´ve been in Helsinki for 4 days. Touristing and the Bruce Springsteen concert at the Olympic Stadium. Which by the way was just great!
I was just a few meters from the stage and if I was a REAL Springsteen fan I could have grabbed him when he was on the catwalk... And I didn´t even queu for the concert. Strange. 43000 people in the audience. 10 songs in the encore and almost lost my voice of all cheering and singing :o)
I had a good time:
- Visited several museums,
-The Helsinki Zoo, Korkeasaari, situated on an island 5 minutes ferry-ride from the Market Square
-Suomenlinna (a old fort out on islands outside the town)
- Anton Corbijn exhibition at Tennispalatsi. He is a photographer that snaps portrait photos and makes music videos of the really big stars. It was great to see the photos in RL.
-The high tower at the Olympic Stadium, the day before the Springsteen concert so I saw when they were setting up the stage and stuff.
-Botanical Garden, of course!
-The Opera house,
-Parliement house,
-took the scenic tour by tram,
-had dinner at the market square,
-photographed the cathedral at Senaatin Tori, Senat Square and
-a lot of strolling around and people watching.
- Had Finnish icecream every day. The sorts you don´t get at home. Domino and the "Supertiikeri" flavoured icecream cones. YAMMY!!! Nomnomnom...
The only thing I bought, except food, was a stuffed rat to Bonnie, my dog and a pin from Suomenlinna. Wasn´t at all in shopping mode, I bought a load of clothes the week before the Helsinki trip.
-Then I spend Saturday at Linnanmäki, the amusement park, with my sister, niece + hubbie and their 5 year old son, Santeri. I had a great time snapping photos of father and son in the rides!
Helsinki is a very nice town to visit. The city centre isn´t too big, you can very well walk everywhere. And there are a lot of cafées and shops if you like that kind of stuff. You can see the sea or the bays from pretty much everywhere in downtown and the parks are many and very well kept.
And they have a Helsinki Card you can use for public transportation and it gives free admission to most of the museums, ferries and such. Well spend money. £53 for a 72 hour card. They have 1-2 day cards also.
I snapped almost 1000 photos, are editing them now and uploading to my PBase.
