The end part:

small thing- Herod's murder, however atrocious it was, wasn't really as huge a thing as traditionally thought. He murdered babies in Bethlehem only, probably a couple dozen. This doesn't excuse the act itself, it just puts it in scale

Also, if you look at the symbolic parallel's between the two events you described, Moses being the survivor of the first massacre (because he "fled" to Egypt), and Jesus being the survivor of the second, because he likewise fled to Egypt. Jesus has time and time again been called the New Moses, the fulfillment of Moses, etc. Pretty interesting stuff although it has nothing to do with anything you said.
