So in light of recent events, I've realized that I'm glad I spend so much time alone here at BC.  I'm glad I don't spend too much time with much of the company here.  I would never want to become like them.

I appluad the guy who doesn't go to dinner every night only when one specific person decides it's time to go.  I applaud the guy who goes alone ( Read more... )

I applaud the kid who is patient enough not to let the faults of those around him stop him from seeing who they really are.

Perhaps it's such that this is exactly who these people are. Surprisingly, all these things were the case of mostly 3 people. Perhaps I liked them more until I got to know who they were. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to like everyone you meet.

Of course you don't have to like everyone you meet. You couldn't if you tried. But you don't have to hate them either. Maybe you don't like them, that happens all the time. Maybe you don't respect them, that happens more than it should. But everyone has value.

My intention was not to devalue their humanity, simply to bring to light a flaw in the way many American children are brought up and how that translates into character flaws later in their lives. I don't have utmost faith in the goodness of humanity because realistically, I've been burned too many times, as I'm sure all of us have. There are people who are simply selfish. These are some of them.

dear dear marto, what is this faith you speak of? that's a pretty weak cop out. you don't know the kids in question, and therefore couldn't possibly know if you could have faith them. furthermore, this post is not about whether or not they have value, it is about how they merit no respect as they are sell-outs, following the herd of Nietzsche. you can have all the faith you want that maybe once in a while they may actually do what they want for themselves, or demonstrate some depths, but that does not change the FACT that 90% of the time, they do not.

good argument though
really

no, really.

p.s. way to try to hard to sound like you give a damn about people
