It's been quite an eventful week. Oddly enough, I've been a lot more relaxed than I expected, and with the exception of a room swap and a few forgotten items, my transition to my new life has been seamless. It's a bit weird to be around so many people I neither know nor recognize in a place that I am completely unfamiliar with, but that doesn't really bother me. I've met some cool people, I'm in good classes, I'm enjoying life - at a time when in all honesty I should be homesick, I don't think it could be much better.
That isn't to say it's been all easy. I will probably have to trade my Mechanics class for another in the Physics department, and although I did not make the cross country team (as expected), I am by no means bitter about that. I ran the team time trial in exactly the time I had trained for (22:45 for the 6K course), a result that would have secured me a roster spot in any other season, but as it was I was the fastest runner not to make the cut. Actually, I'm amazed I did that well. When I first talked with the coaches 3 weeks ago, I was running the 6K in 25:50, and considering I was coming off injury and had to limit my training as a precaution, a 3 minute improvement in 3 weeks is truly astounding. The assistant coach told me I should stay in shape and try out for winter track when the time comes, and I intend to do so. Until then, I'm going to try out for the triathlon club and hope to compete for them 2 weeks from Sunday. I also want to look into buying a time trial bike.
I'm off to bed right now, but there are certainly more updates to come.
