David McCallum

While I'm sure it would be reviting to talk about my day of packing, I've decided not to and found something else to talk about.

Last year I was obsessed with The Man From UNCLE. I still am to a degree, but through this I have discovered a new favourite actor: David McCallum (Illya) and I went on a search for other things he's been in. In the past I've been a bit weiry about doing this, since it doesn't always work out. Just because I like an actor in one role, doesn't mean I'll like them in others. However, I braved the unknown and got lucky.

NCIS (Donald 'Ducky' Malllard
I'd already seen bits of this before I even watched TMFU, but I've started watching it properly from the beginning and Ducky is very much my favourite character. Being older and playing a very different part to what I'm used it, it proved that David McCallum is an enjoyable actor to watch no matter what the character. Ducky is certainly more talkative and friendly than Illya and the show is good also. I'm on to season 3 now. Only 10 more seasons to go (And counting)

Saphire and Steel (Steel)
From the late 70s eary 80s. This one was a gamble. When I first heard of the show I thought they were detectives. And they are...of sorts. Only time agents and I think they're aliens? It's not well expained, but the show got good reviews so I bought the whole thing on DVD with a gift card I got at Christmas. It's a slow moving show, but has a lot of atmosphere and suspense. Saphire is played beautifully by Jonna Lumley and while Steel is very...cold and can be a right bastard at times...I still like him. The way the two interact is the main draw of the show for me. I really like the show and I'm glad I bought it.

Colditz (Ft Lt, Simon Carter)
This is where my luck ran out. While I know this show was popular in the 70's and it starred some very good actors, I just found it boring. I was reluctant to watch it, but decided to after seeing a clip where Simon tries escaping while inside a tea chest (It was so cute.) But sadly, apart from a few moments here and there, I didn't enjoy it. Though I did enjoy Simon's first episode where he was captured.
Why I watched all 28 episodes I'm not sure. I guess I hoped it'd get better. I'm not saying it's a bad show, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I did like Carter in it, though he was a little hot headed at times and it was a well acted, but it just wasn't my kind of show.

He was also in The Great Escape which I'd seen before and have seen a couple of times more recently. It is a great film.

I liked his role...apart from one part...which I'm sure anyone who's seen the film will know which part.

And the episode of The A Team which I like to call the Unofficial MFU/The A Team crossover.

I'm not really a fan of the fifth series of The A Team, but this episode was just pure joy and rather dark.

I think I can safely say he is now one of my favoourite actors. And he's 82 and still acting. Amazing.
