A tale of two beaches

I am so late these days with typing anything up. I'm not really sure why.

Anyway, last weekend mum and I went to the beach. I was determined to get down to the coast sometime this summer while the weather's so gorgeous, but I wasn't sure which one. Initially I wanted to go to Lullworth Cove because I love it down there and haven't been for years. However when mum and I set off we decided on Swanage because it looked easier to get to

It took 2 hours to get too and the traffic wasn't bad. We made the right choice leaving at 8am. Between us we didn't have a lot of change so we only paid for 2 hours parking, thinking we'd just come back after that and pay for more. However, apart from wearing my swimming costume I wasn't very prepared for sitting around on the beach and honestly, I'm not really one for doing that for long. I love the sea and I love paddling in it, but I'm not really one for lounging around, sunbathing. So we wondered up the pier and looked around the shops. We found a shop called Rainbow's End which was a new age type shop with lots of beautiful dresses. I wish I'd bought one now, seeing how I can't get back their easily, but they weren't cheap.

Anyway, instead of paying for more parking we decided to head over to Corfe Castle, just a few miles down the road. We had lunch there and went for a look around the castle. It belongs to the National Trust and I'm a member, but I didn't have my card with me. Typical! I keep it in my purse, but I was in the process of switching over the old one for the new one, which I can't find. Anyway, we still had a look around. It's on a hill so, lots of hiking. It wasn't too busy thankfully and you get some really beautiful view from up there. We could just about see Poole Harbour.

After that we decided we'd head down to Lullworth Cove anyway since it wasn't far. I do love the cove, even though it's a shingle beach. We sat on the rocks and just relaxed. There is a proper sandy beach along the coast at Durdle Door, but it's quite a walk and we were too tired to do it, so we had an ice cream and enjoyed the cove.

All in all it was a great day out with no sunburn and I hope I can get back to the beach before the weather turns. I'm thinking early Sept, after the kids go back to school.
