Does anyone else notice something distinctly ODD about the moon lately? First of all, it's a little bit bigger than usual. Secondly, it's got a hell of a schnoz- that's the scientific term. It's making me wonder if the 'man in the moon' idea actually has something to it... In any case, I don't think this problem is going to go away overnight. We're ( Read more... )

I don't know about the man on the moon, but back home there was a mare in the moon.

But still, that was different. Way different.

Mare as in horse? Are there moon-horses in the legends of your world?

[Alien horses, running wild on the moon. Yeah, he'll buy it.]

Basically. My world's full of ponies, and the Mare in the Moon was one of the oldest legends.

'course, it turned out to be true.

Oh? Was it... a good legend or a bad one?

Not what I'd call good.

[Dash isn't much of a reader, but from what she understands...]

Basically, it had to do with Princess Celestia's sister going crazy and getting sent to the moon for a thousand years. Thing is, the legend was more than an old story. Nightmare Moon was real, and me and my friends had to face her.

Legends are often based off of the truth, more than people realize.

So you had to face, as in fight her? What was that like?

Well, Nightmare Moon was pretty powerful. If we didn't have the Elements of Harmony, beating her would've been a pain.

But with the elements, it was no problem. We even changed her back to her old self somehow.

Blame the power of friendship.

[Or something like that.]

[Friendship? Really? It reminds him of things they put in kids' cartoons.]

In other words... good triumphed over evil, or in this case... won it over?

Pretty much! Helps that the Elements are pretty powerful.

[Ah, but such is the logic of a cartoon universe full of technicolor ponies.]

Haven't heard from her since then, but I'm guessing she's probably handling the moon like she used to. Hopefully we won't have to deal with an 'eternal night' again.

Eternal night? Am I right to assume that's... pretty much what it sounds like?

[He's sure by now that this particular legend is not what they're dealing with, this time around, but it's good to eliminate possibilities.]

Yep. If she had her way, she would've kept the moon out forever and made sure Princess Celestia never raised the sun again.

[Ah, more strange logic. Magical ponies controlling day and night!]

So the rising of the moon and sun- night and day themselves- are under control by these... uh, ponies, in your world? That's some serious power if so.

[Kind of like some gods in many polytheistic religions, he's thinking. Not too off what he's heard of, at least.]

[...except the pony part.]

It's not just night and day. Pegasi handle the weather, earth ponies grow plants and take care of the animals.

[It just keeps getting stranger, huh?]

Everything in Equestria's pony controlled. The only place where it happens on its own is in the Everfree Forest.

Everything, huh? So does every pony in your world have a specific function then?

voice wannabolt November 10 2011, 00:27:28 UTC
Yep. Everypony's got their own special talent, but not all of 'em work with stuff like the weather.

Am I right in guessing you're also one, and have your own talent, too?
