Hello~
So, finally I was able to work on this translation! It was really fun to read, and also quite nostalgic given all the past shoots they mentioned during the interview lol
Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading this little thing too
💗💙💜
P.s. credits of the pics go to theqoo
(these are the covers of the magazines they mention in the interview)
Kamenashi: It's TvGuide's 60th anniversary, isn't that great?
Ueda: It's really an amazing thing to keep going for 60 years.
Nakamaru: Congratulations. All we can do is to wish you can keep going in the future as well.
Ueda: Although, I can only remember that I had to take clothes off the first time I appeared on this magazine /laugh/.
Kamenashi: KAT-TUN featured on it every other week, didn't we? We surely did a lot.
Nakamaru: Somehow, it looks like it sold well when there was KAT-TUN on its cover.
Kamenashi: I'm really thankful. That's because Nakamaru's nipples were out in this issue (2006.03.31) /laugh/.
Nakamaru: I didn't open (T/N: guess his shirt?) it myself.
Kamenashi: No, no, I think you did it yourself. You were confident /laugh/.
Ueda: Ahahah.
Kamenashi: Also, we did various cosplays too. Like, sailors (2006.07.28 issue).
Ueda: I hated dressing up as sailors more than being naked or acting sexy. That's the best memory I have. I had lots of disagreements on the scene. Then, I remember being lured in with food, something like: "We'll order you some meal" /laugh/.
Kamenashi: Ahahah!
Nakamaru: But, KAT-TUN were the first Johnny's to be featured on the cover. When I think about it, we really owe this magazine a lot every since.
Kamenashi: But that made us so happy. Back then, we were only featuring on idol magazines, so being interviewing by a tv magazine gave us the feeling of ah, we debuted. I feel it was that way, right?
Ueda: When we were in the middle of the recharging period, I had an interview for the release of the DVD live of the concert we held before the recharge. When I went to the studio they prepared a grand piano (2016.06.16 issue) and I remember I played 「PRECIOUS ONE」. I wasn't asked to play it, but I did it because the piano was there.
Nakamaru: When I was shooting on site for Massage Tantei Joe, TvGuide came to interview me (2017.03.03 issue).
Kamenashi: That was an exclusive!
Nakamaru: Recently, on Jyanino Channel, Kikuchi (Fuma) mentioned Massage Tantei Joe, and unexpectedly, the song (the solo song Nakamaru sang) Otsukare Thanks became kinda popular again /laugh/. It was originally distributed online, but since then a strange phenomenon happened, as it looks like it entered the daily charts /laugh/.
Kamenashi: Jyanino channel's influence is amazing, isn't it?
Nakamaru: Well, it's something I'm thankful for. Although, no matter how popular SNS are, comparing it to TV, the scale is way different. Because, roughly speaking, TV ratings can be up to 1million people watching, which is an unthinkable number of watchers.
Ueda: When we appeared on Kouhaku Uta Gessen I was simply so happy, my friend's grandmother was as well and even people who usually don't contact me about work, reached me saying "You were on Kouhaku, amazing!"
Nakamaru: Many people told me the same too. Even my family contacted me.
Kamenashi: Even when I walk down the streets, many people tell me "Congratulations for Kouhaku!", that's what a national tv show is like, huh. Nowadays, visual media is not onlu about tv as we're in an indescribable era, but, concerning tv, you just turn it on and you get to see people there by chance, and that's what's good about it.
Ueda: Since Tv's compliance isn't that strict, SNS now are more similar to what Tv was like back then. However there of course are still some traditional tv shows, like Kouhaku, so, if you appear on one of them, you kind of feel moved for that, -because- it's only on tv. I think this is part of it's charms. Also shows like "Tetsuko no heya".
Nakamaru: One day I went to eat yakiniku with Kuroyanagi (Tetsuko)-san and had the opportunity to hear this kind of story. It was a strange feeling to hear that Kuroyanagi-san has been on tv from the beginning. From a different perspective, though, it's been about 70 years since tv started, so it's still developing.
Kamenashi: When I was a kid, I used to watch lots of tv. And now, as a person involved in tv, I really want to cherish it, so, if there's anything I can do for tv, even if it's a little, I want to do it properly.
Nakamaru: Lately, there are also projects acknowledging YouTube -in them-, and also distributions on Tv. I believe things will keep on changing in future.
Ueda: I want to try to experience some works with a history, such as morning drama, after all. Even though it might have its difficulties, I would like to continue my job as an actor on tv.
Nakamaru: Also, the fact that we can have such a tv show as "KAT-TUN no shokuhō GETTUN" is because people recognise that kind of industry. Back in the day, not everyone would understand the meaning of "being on top of (T/N: teppen de)", but now a lot more people do; hence this flow might be because people are familiar with tv.
Kamenashi: Speaking of which, the cover of this issue (2016.04.11 issue) was shot on Tame Tabi's location, before Shokuhō. I noticed this also when we had the interview on site, but they could have done something more with this /laugh/. It's almost like a fishing magazine.
Nakamaru: I also remembered one thing. I used to cut fruits for interviews pretty often.
Ueda: I also owe a lot to the interviews for Taiikukai Tv.
Kamenashi: However, when I look at these covers, TvGuide and also Tv have nurtured us, so I really want to keep making interesting things in future too.
