I recently had a conversation with a friend, who was balking at the ability of a certain piece of software to uprate a captured MP3 stream. She reasoned that since uprating is a generally pointless action-offering no improvement in audio quality (the chain is only as strong as the weakest link)-that it made no sense to allow it.
