Just because I haven't been posting, it doesn't mean I haven't been drawing. Livejournal was being a bitch so I just didn't bother to post since it was taking forever to load pages. I'm not THAT patient. But I have been keeping up with my "draw for at least an hour each day" plan and have been enjoying it so far. Just got to keep it up...

Oct 4.5:
Shortly after that blog post I went and did a doodle with my tablet in photoshop. Drew Fuka (from Disgaea 4) cosplaying as Etna. Mostly because Etna dresses pretty skimpy and I can be a perv when it comes to 2D wimminz *cough*. Also I love my badass prinny girl waifu. Drawing itself turned out alright (it's just simple lineart sketch) but looks kind of boring in the end. She's just kind of...standing...there. Oh well...it has been a while since I've attempted to draw "anime" style. Next time I'll try a more dynamic pose.

Oct 5:
Doodled some portraits at work. Pencil on small white sketchbook paper (5.5" x 4.5"). I normally hate working small scale but the sketches turned out pretty decent I thought. I was using a magazine from work as reference. My only problem is that I have a hard time capturing a persons "likeness". I can get the shading and tones right and everything looks anatomically correct...it's just the precise angles on a persons face or the EXACT shape of their eyes or SOMETHING that I'm doing completely wrong. I need to really study my sketches and find out WHAT so I can improve...

Oct 6:
Hands. Dreadful dreadful hands. Hands are soooo fucking hard for me to draw. I must have done 8 or 9 (maybe 10?) sketches. Trying different styles, different gestures, different techniques. I didn't see much improvement at all unless I were to draw cartoony anime hands. I need to get LOTS and LOTS more practice. Sketched with HB pencil in a regular 8.5x11" sketchbook.

Oct 7:
Back to portraits. This time with charcoal on 9x12" manila paper. The first one I did turned out GODAWFUL. It looked like some of the horrible sketches I would have done ten years ago. It was just...WRONG. I tried the exact same sketch right after and it was a little better...but still wrong. Today was a really off day. I also did a large hand gesture sketch that also turned out pretty gibbled. Work was BLARGH stressful and I only got 2 hours of sleep last night so maybe that's why. I was really forcing myself.

I've been doing life drawings all week. Perhaps I should take a break and switch to something else tomorrow. Maybe try landscape or architecture. Maybe try painting or digital art. I might even try some random fun cartoon/anime doodles in photoshop. We'll see what I'm in the mood for. My life drawing definitely needs improvement but I don't want to burn myself out on it. I draw better when I'm enjoying myself.
