My ailing car started hemorrhaging yesterday morning, as opposed to the slow bleeding it's been doing since I got it. But I had to be at work, so drove off anyway. When the oil light came on, I pulled over and put in some more. It wasn't sounding like a leaking tire in a puddle anymore which I took to be a good sign. I got to the shop without further incident. Called my parents trying not to sound as frantic as I felt. Dad's been planning to sell me a car he's been trying to get rid of for some time now. Various circumstances have been delaying the transfer of said vehicle since the fall. I hate to put them out, but clearly my current car isn't going to be around much longer. They agreed to hasten plans to come down with the Buick. But that still left me with a questionable vehicle and at least 3 hour-plus trips to make.

I told my boss about my woes, and jacked up my car to get a better look at things. After hearing the details, he suggested a possible solution and drove me to the parts store to get a new oil filter and the tools to change it. (The spurting was coming from the seal around the filter.) He then proceeded to change said filter which seemed to staunch the bleeding, for which I was extremely grateful. I'm used to fixing the problems my boss causes, so it felt a little strange for him to be fixing one of mine. I dis him a lot, but he's not without his benefits. I often lose sight of that.

I should be cleaning up my hovel for the imminent arrival of the 'Rents.

I heard from my long-lost-then-found-then-lost-again friend Tim. He had moved back home to Philly from Arizona, but went back out to La-La-Land to make some green. He's still there, and the brief snippets of information I got from him just raise more questions. I couldn't really talk, 'cause I was on a job site, but I told him I'd call back when done. I finished with work, and called him back, but he was busy and said he'd call me right back. This was four hours ago. I now have his IM info, and saw he was logged on, but away. I seized this opportunity to start commenting on his last e-mail. Unfortunately, I just confused his girlfriend with my rambling. She graciously gave me the number there to call him later. He might be home by now. I should try to call.

As I told his girlfriend, Tim is one of my favorite people on the planet. When we talk or see each other in person I laugh longer and harder than I do with anyone else I can think of offhand. I think we share the same worldview in that we see humor in the same places. By that I mean everywhere. I enjoy talking to him in spite of/because of the fact that no matter where he goes or what he does, he is a vortex around which the most improbable things occur. My latest theory is that he is a weirdness magnet. Granted, his chosen profession is far from the most normal, namely filmmaker/editor, but his life is almost always full of drama of one sort or another. However, unlike some ;-) friends I could mention, I actually believe that he's just an unwitting victim of the drama, as opposed to the creator of it. It's not like he's looking for drama where there is none. Quite the opposite. He avoids it at all costs, but the universe likes to jump out and yell "BOO!" at him. I think his move back east was an attempt to get out of the way of some of that drama, but to no avail. I can't wait to hear the latest. :-)
