Forgot to mention elsewhere. I'm getting a new mobile phone tomorrow because my current one is finally starting to fall apart. Therefore there will be a short period where I try to work out how to answer the damned thing and write text messages on it.
I can do computers - not video machines, DVD players, or mobile phones.
ION: I see that there has been a announcement that someone has released a commercial 1 terabyte hard drive.
Holy. Shit.
There's also talk of putting RAID arrays into home PCs to give affordable extra storage. RAID for those of you that aren't techies, or proper geeks, is in essence a system of getting a huge amount of storage by daisy-chaining a bunch of smaller hard disks together into one big chunky virtual drive. These can all run idependantly of each other so in theory if one of the drives falls on it's arse the whole lot doesn't go with it. There's also lots of geeky fun to be had with hot-swappable drives and suchlike too. In short they're a technology used on servers to stop them dying and still have huge amounts of storage.
And now it's coming to a workstation near you so we can make bigger, bloatier software or store even more, higher resolution pictures, all without running out of space. Ain't technology fab?
All I can say is that if you think computer hardware is a confusing beast now stick around cause it's about to get a whole lot better!
