Woo-Hoo, we leave for San Jose tonight! (do you have any idea how many times I typed it as Jan Sose before I got it right? LOL). For those unaware, according to Google Maps, this is roughly an 11.5 hour trip, we're hoping to make it in 15 hours. So, here's my to-do list. Things done are lined out.
Reserve hotel room
Print directions
Pick up rental car
Decide on where to meet, how/if we are conga-line driving down there
Pack clothes - Chas, Anothony and Spencer
Pack toilitries
Pack food/snacks/water/more water
Charge cell phone!
Pack soccer uniform
Double check ALL pieces of uniform are together
Triple check ALL pieces of uniform are together AND clean
Burn CDs for good "stay awake without waking everyone else in the car" music
Download my games onto laptop so I don't go through withdrawals (please let me have time to do this!!!)
Deliver other kids to mom's house
Turn back around to make sure mom was home when I ditched dropped them off
Load everything into suburban
Unload suburban to reload into the rental car that we will be taking
Meet rest of team at Sears parking lot
Leave promptly at 12:01am
Sleep so I can take over driving around 4am
Funeral was yesterday followed by burial site service followed by gathering at the church. We went to the two services, but I had to get back to work so didn't make it to the church. The coach and his wife brought my girls with them. The funeral itself was fine, there were a few tears when the country song "One more day" played. It was the burial site that got everyone crying. They started by singing Amazing Grace (which my kids don't know). At one point, all the girls were crying, not sure if it was due to "group mentality" or if they were that upset themselves. Either way, they all got hugs and comfort and the moms got snotty shirts. :)
At the end of the services, nearly everyone was gone when my two girls and Courtney (the coaches daughter) all walked up the casket and rubbed it. They stood there, silent, just touching it. Each in their own way saying goodbye. It was touching, hopefully it helped to provide them some closure. Devin (my morbid one) wanted to know when they were going to lower the casket and if she could watch them dump the dirt on it. At first she thought they put it in vertically and the flat tombstone (headstone?) was capping it off. :)
It was a very draining day. It was stupid, but I felt guilty crying at the funeral; because, I had my girls in my arms...I don't know, it was dumb, but I still felt guilty.
So, hopefully I'll be home safe and sound sometime late mon night/tues morning. Wish Spencer luck! If his team wins, they get to go to Sea World and see Shamu. :o)
