In all my years of watching TV, and although the quantity I watch has decreased greatly, I must say that tonight, at approximately 3:00am, one of my favorite TV moments of all time occurred (although, spawning out of one of the worst TV moments of all time). It's important to write in here, because it is small and something that perhaps would not be remembered by anyone otherwise, and never will be despite this; nevertheless, it merits my first update in more than a month.
The network broadcasting such a moment was none other than the one any fine TV connoisseur would expect of such greatness, Adult Swim. Between shows, for the deprived who don’t know, Adult Swim has a tradition to show a black screen with white text, in which some of the employees of Adult Swim get to send a little message or joke to their on-looking fans. Tonight, the message went, and horribly paraphrased unfortunately, along the lines of “Hey, music networks. Next time you have exclusive rights to a musical performance, like, say, Pink Floyd’s reunion show at Live 8, why don’t you play it? And not cut to your stupid VJ’s. Pink Floyd should never be cut off.” And, it went on to make a little note about how music is only secondary to such networks.
As for the bad moment to go along with this, Ultimate-Guitar news put MTV's assholishness as such, "But everything just couldn't turn out all right. During MTV's coverage of the concert, in their obsessive pursuit of revenue, the station decided to take a commercial break during the 'historic' reunion of Pink Floyd. Besides that, the station's presenters decided to talk over some of the rest of the performance."
So, Adult Swim, rock the fuck on.
And MTV, fuck you.
