On the rainslick precipice of PAX?

Somehow, I've ended up at PAX, via Rainfurrest, thanks to a generous gift of free passes for myself and my room mates..! Now, I'm not a big gamer really, but nevertheless, its quite a nice, laid back atmosphere here. Right now, for instance, I'm sprawled back on a bean bag chair (something all cons need, if they have the space! Its so great, even kind of social in effect!) next to my mate, having literally curled and slept for an hour or so without any stigma at all. :)

I know I've not really posted much at all, oh, this whole summer. I've suffered through a few nasty things since all the way back in spring. Bronchitis, then poison ivy, a leg injury, a back injury (nothing serious, honest!), and just general fatigue. But, I've a week off, because of my birthday..! I'm headed back to New Jersey in a few hours, to see parents and family and celebrate.

I intend that, after hugging my mom upon getting in, I'm going to take Shadow, our dog, and take her on a run.. I miss having a pet so much. While I was living in PA, I'd still see everyone every couple weeks.. but I can't talk to the dog over the phone or the like, so its kind of a total separation. She deserves a good run, anyhow. :D

Rainfurrest, the local Seattle furry con, is in year Zero. And, really, though nothing is /bad/ per se, they need a different hotel. Its not an inviting place, unlike AFF's hotel was, for instance. No place to be social, really! The con rooms are tiny, its not made for this kind of thing at all, and its not by any near food outside of a Denny's and lonely Teriaki shack.

The flooding in the midwest also screwed with my work just before the convention. I thought, on Thursday, it was going to be no problem! After all, volume of packages had fallen to about 60K, really incredibly light for this time of year (pre school flood of junk). But, walking in Friday, it was a 100K night (!!), the highest I'd ever seen. So I got like no sleep before heading out to Rainfurrest, and then PAX - curling up on this beanbag chair was heavenly..

Everyone seems so nice here. They're not really afraid to say hello. It was a more awkward at Rainfurrest, but I don't know. Somehow, I think the atmosphere itself did that. I was listening to Tipping Point (Malcolm Gladwell, who also wrote Blink) again, and am reminded how seemingly little differences can have effects that seem totally out of proportion in our minds, due to how we rank the importance of things.

Anyhow, I have all the credits but for a math course and one more Natural Science before I've an official Associates Degree - and my GPA stands there at 3.96, so I've been getting letters from other colleges in the mail, actively recruiting, which is.. kind of a nice feeling, too. But I worry, as I keep talking to people with a college degree who are.. stuck at Walmart or the like still. :/

In the mean time, I put in to be a Driver at UPS, which.. would mean $28/h, etc, etc.. its.. kind of hard to beat that, even if its not using my mind so much. Oh well, I'm not sure what will ultimately happen...
