So I went to Microsoft's updates today as I'd heard they had another one that I might not have yet. Usually if I don't recognize at least a general benefit from whatever updates they have there, I look into it at least a little. Today was no exception.
One of the 3 updates they had seemed very reluctant to offer up any real description of what it was patching or updating or fixing. Their 'read more' link was ... well, it talked more about installing it than about what it was fixing really. I had to dig through all the related announcements, the FAQ, vulnerability details, security update information, and executive summary to get even the most general idea of what that patch was fixing. Along the way I got the idea that it was breaking things, rather than fixing things. =) Go Microsoft! (=
I think it was the FAQ that described rarely used 'features' of Windows that the patch would alter so that instead of doing whatever it normally would do, it would now display "Cannot display this page."
Which to me, sounds like they're breaking things... ah such petty details.
Anyway, I'm not entirely sure that my computer needs this one... not that I use any of the rarely used features they mentioned, or even the main one that this patch is supposed to fix... but I'll install it anyway, because I don't want to turn on Windows 'help and support' thingie just to find out if my 'help and support' thingie is on (which would mean that I'd need the patch).
Gotta love Microsoft & Windows Update.
