Today officially starts "Project: Kono's Cage". By "officially", I mean, "I'm serious about it, but only as time allows, since he's still comfortable in his old cage for now, so there's no huge rush, I just really want to do it because it's cool".
With that said, here's what I want to do.
I have an old display cabinet similar to
this one, only, you know, less fancy. Anyway the top portion is the "glass display portion" and has two glas display doors that swing outward. Below it is the "non-display portion" which has the two wooden doors that also swing outward. All the shelves have been taken out.
Here's what I want to do with it.
- Find an old sink. Cut a sink-sized hole in the bottom of the glass display portion and run piping through the non-display portion and out the right side of the case. This will be his bathing pool/potty/water hole. The sink is ideal because it will have a drain. That way cleanup will be a snap, just unplug the drain and let the water drain out into a pot or something next to the cabinet.
- Set up a water filter system in the sink to filter the water.
- Attach two seperate platforms to either side of the case. These will act as bases that he can climb onto.
- drill holes for cross section on either side
- Rig some heat and UVB lamps to the inside of the cage.
What I know how to do:
- Drill holes
- Create platforms
- set up the sink (I think)
- Set up the filter system
What I don't know how to do:
- Set up the lamps so they won't catch the case on fire
- I could probably use some instructions on the sink part too, though I think I know what I'm doing there.
I also will need to set up a fogging system once everything is done.
Anyway, I want it to look like
this.
This is sort of a big project for me, but I think it could work out well. I guess the first thing I'll need to do is find a sink that'll fit my needs.
So I'll be posting messages like this one from time to time, with information - like measurements of the space available and such. Feel free to ignore them, but any suggestions you want to make will probably be highly helpful to me.
