Research Officer / Post-Doctoral Fellowship

Salary: 1.114,29 per month (14 monthly payments) (equivalent to 1,300 12 months), 22.5 hours per week
This is a part-time post compatible with holding other part-time positions at the Department.
Contract renewable on a yearly basis up to 3 years.
Starting date March 3 2014 or soon thereafter
This post-doctoral Fellowship is to assist Professor Javier Polavieja in the programme of research attached to the project Culture, Adaptation and Labour-Market Attainment of International Migrants in Europe (CALMA), funded by VI Plan Nacional de Investigación Científica, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (CSO2012-38521).
You will be given ample scope to publish independently as well as in co-authorship with other members
The Project will cover expenses for the presentation of findings in international/national conferences and seminars
Tasks:
You will be expected to prepare datasets that imply the combination of various data sources into one single data matrix (European Social Survey and the EU Labour Force Survey)
You will have advanced quantitative research skills in order to conduct original statistical analysis
You will also be expected to undertake minor basic administrative tasks, including assistance in the preparation of seminars and workshops, as well as basic IT tasks, including managing the projects? webpage
Requisites:
You should have a PhD (or have one nearly completed) which involves quantitative methods on large data sets
You should also be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of advanced modes of quantitative data analysis. Knowledge of multilevel modelling, multiple imputation and time-series analysis will be particularly valued
Similarly, you should have a good knowledge of desktop IT, including packages related to searching and accessing scientific literature
You must be fluent in STATA
Applicants with research interests in migration and social stratification are especially encouraged
