Another day in my continuing study of human oddity when it comes to spending, losing, wasting, or otherwise parting with that mystical force known as money.
Had a gentleman come in today to mail an item of moderate importance, and wished to do so Priority Expedited Mail, which is an $8.50 service. And he wanted to pay for this service-- I kid not, here, people-- entirely in two-cent stamps. That's right, ladies and gentlemen. Two-cent stamps. I don't know where he got them all, but he'd obviously been saving many a long winter night for this day, waiting no doubt in anticipation for the very moment his wicked plan would come to fruition. I sincerely wish I could have taken a picture, but I fear that likely would have been considered unprofessional, and possibly illegal in some way.
All and all, we wound up with something in the neighborhood of 245 stamps before he finally ran out and had to buy a meter strip for the remaining post. The envelope, which was an 8x11 manila envelope, was literally covered in the things. There was not an open space left to be had, save a small box we had to leave for the TO/FROM: addresses to show through. It was like some bizarre, freakish stamp collage.
It was, I dare say, beautiful.
