Today is my last day at Wisnom's in San Mateo, and yesterday was my last day at KPIX. I'm glad my last day there was a Monday, cause Dennis is definitely my favorite sports anchor and so I got to hang out with him a bit. Anthony let me "help out" a bit with Giants highlights (that was my game) and Top 5 (I convinced him not to pull the Colts highlight). Anthony said he'll miss my logs, since unlike many logs they're readable and ridiculously detailed. I'm sure no one who has seen my notebook for the Daily with my play-by-play of field hockey and men's gym is surprised. Dennis was in the process of saying bye, but as usual we got totally sidetracked into a sports discussion--Big House Football! Can't wait for my first game of the year, coming up soon!!!
It's been a pretty slow day here, so I've had lots of time to surf online. Tigers stuff is oh so lovely since they kicked MAJOR ass last night, beating the nasty ChiSox 7-1. Verlander got his 16th win. They're leading right now, 2-0 in the top of the third. Come on Kenny! We just got Neifi Perez, who I have an irrational grudge against. I will soon get over this I hope; usually once a guy puts on that D it doesn't take too long for me to warm up to him. Neifi, when he was with the Giants, was the main roadblock to Cody Ransom taking over the backup infielder job. Cody was my favorite Giant for years, but I hardly ever got to see him play; it was a big moment when I was able to figure out which feet were his, sitting on the upper bench in the dugout. Since they didn't make Ransom t-shirts, I made myself one, which I wore to every Giants game until he was released. One night, Cody got the game winning hit in the bottom of the ninth against the Dodgers, and for the first and only time I got boatloads of compliments on my homemade shirt. I made one for my mom too; hers said BIG CAT on the back since I knew there was no way I could fit Galarraga on there. He was her favorite. (Mom hates baseball, but she has favorite players. Denial much?? :))
Jaime, one of the guys who works here, wants to meet me for something tomorrow. I kinda don't want to but I can't think of a nice way to say no. Just fyi, this is not some hot guy my age, or even just a regular looking guy my age. Hence the out-creeping, just a bit. I have to be at Menlo Medical by 12:00 tomorrow so that will probably help me cut stuff short if it gets uncomfortable. That's gonna be a fun interview. And if stuff goes true to form, afterwards I'll be all hyped up and ready to bang out the rest of my feature. Must remember to bother Joe about getting the nasty pictures of him being all bloody. Hooray gore. Oh my, closeups of Mikey in the dugout (changing subjects abruptly). What a cutie. He has to pitch a fourth rehab start, because he had tenderness in his elbow after that brilliant third one. As much as I want him back, I am definitely in the err-on-the-side-of-caution camp. I don't want anything irrevocably bad happening to my Mikey.
I'm kinda rambling because I can't leave early--I have an eye doctor appointment a couple streets away. Gotta get a note so the airline freakazoids don't think I'm going to blast the plane out of the sky using my contact solution. I refuse to trust my contacts to the check in luggage. If those were lost, within 24 hours I would barely be able to see. And that would NOT be good. Ooooooh, Thames just hit an RBI triple!!!! YEAH TRIPLES!!! Tygs lead 3-0. I like the look of things so far!
Bonds hit his first splash hit of the year last night. Dad was there to see it, and I logged it (with excessive exclamation points, which later appeared in the broadcast, teehee). Oh man they're interviewing my boy in the dugout!!!! Must go concentrate!!!
