Got the A's game on and for some reason it seems to be going very slowly. Perhaps it is the insanely awful combination of Josh Lewin and Lou Piniella as the broadcast team. Lewin shows no emotion when he should (ie Bonds' 714th homer), too much when he shouldn't (today's excited comparison of Bradley scoring to playing Twister) and also has a faint but still reeeeeally annoying lateral lisp. Yes, I am my mother's daughter. Speech impediments drive me crazy.
Last night the Tigers came through with another fantastic comeback. Down 5-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, the Boys ended up winning 7-6. Casey hit a two-run double, and Craig topped everything off with a clutch two run homer. This right after FSN Detroit showed Little Nate, Mikey, and Verlander all stuffing their mouths full of Big League Chew. Gum Time does work!
In other exciting Tigers news, I'm gonna be in the Detroit Free Press tomorrow! A couple weeks ago they asked people to send in photos of them with Detroit sports figures along with accompanying stories. So I sent in my photos with Todd Jones, Jason Grilli, and Curtis & Marcus. And two days ago the assistant sports editor called me and said the Jonesy picture at least is going in! He also said he's a former Daily kid and to call him up when I get back, maybe I can do some freelance stuff for them. How cool would that be??
Work is finally progressing on the gymnastics backpage. Still waiting for my doctor to get back from his trip though. The lead is Joe, which I'm wondering if I should change. I mean, he is basically the reason I started working on the injuries feature, but I feel like I focus on him too much. But it's not like the others did not have the same chance to get in--I e-mailed all the boys and plan to use quotes from all five who responded. Joe, being the wonderfully accommodating guy he is, was of course one of the first to respond and was all stoked about it. I tried a couple times to get Justin Laury but he never answered. Definitely would've been nice to get him but oh well. Good stuff from Joe, Aaron, Elk, Scott, and Jamie. Now I just have to make it coherent and 3 pages long!!!
Not like this is news, but I'm pretty ready to get back to Ann Arbor. I have a bit of guilt that I haven't been doing that much hanging out with the kids due to work and getting my wisdom teeth out etc. But I still want to get back to my cozy little single and my books and my Bunch and boys and sports crew and Charley's and my DVDs and the TIGERS and Freep in hard copy. . . yeah I miss Michigan a lot. I had to call TCF the other day to assure them I really was in Holland, and when I heard the Michigan accent on the other end I got all Michigan-sick. I want a Gum Time shirt. Yep, I'm feeling random.
The boys (Danny, Will, and Ryan) are a 100% go for the visit to AA in September, as far as I know. The three wondrous Hearts Clubbers living together in U Towers have agreed to take Will in, which is incredibly sweet of them. I can only fit the two short ones in my room, and even that will be a squeeze. Should be lots and lots of fun though, introducing the very famous kids to the very famous Bunch. Famous in Colty-land anyways. Okay, must focus on the A's. Oooh, Ellis just walked to load em up for Kendall with one out.
