"Do Not Call" Means Just That

Well, the honeymoon is definitely over. I got hit with solicitor calls on both phone numbers today. This has been happening now for about a week and I would suspect it's the same company.

The first call was from a guy named Rudy who barely spoke English. He identified himself as being from Dish Network and I hung up on him (we have DirecTV and are quite happy with the services). Five minutes later, the phone rang again (I have my home phone routed to the business phone when I'm online) and it was someone else from Dish Network. This time, I cornered him and asked him exactly how he'd gotten the number. He muttered something about different companies selling phone lists. I told him then and there that I'd been on the national "do not call" list since it opened.

He had never heard of it. He refused to remove my phone number --- both of them --- from the database and started that sad old wheeze about putting the phone number on their own "do not call" list but it taking forever and a butthole for it to be effective (meaning they thought they could continue harassing me in my own home for as long as it took). I tried explaining to him about the national do not call list and when he started shouting over me, I asked for a supervisor.

She told me that I didn't have the right to remove the phone number from their business lists. I told her that I damn well did, after which she stammered that she'd take care of it. I asked her how she was going to do that since she hadn't taken either of the phone numbers for reference or the name under which the phone is listed. She didn't have an answer for that. I then asked for the phone number to the call center; she wasn't going to give it to me, telling me it wouldn't do any good to complain because the number would just be answered by another rep. I informed her I didn't intend to call it, I was reporting them.

I don't know if it will help, but I did just that.

Now if only they'll leave me in peace....this is my home and my phone numbers. I'll choose when and if I want their business, not the other way around. You DON'T talk to me like that in my own home.
