And I'm never gonna need you there...

Made a small little drinking event last week which predictably few people turned up to. Which wasn't suhc a bad thing really. Until people did make their way on down to that underground cramped closet known as Charlie's Bar, I was thoroughly entertaining myself by flirting with random women walking by. There's something about free champagne which makes women just turn up to bars. Might as well offer free chocolate whilst you're at it and then duck for cover! Tried to organize it again for this week but the responses have been less than stellar so I just cancelled the damn thing.

Moving on from there and having a couple more drinks with friends, I eventually met up with Dom & Jess outside Billboards for the Sound Mind Gig there. Due to her having cheap tickets for some reason or another, I thought that a music gig would be the perfect thing for my mildly inebriated self. ^_^; Always a good idea Tyk. The first warm-up band which I actually listened to was Bellusira, a band which Dom was quite involved in pimping to the general public. And to be honest, they were worth the pimping. Definitely to be classed as Rock/Metal it reminded me of a mix between Cog and Evanescence. Except without the overly pop Goth overtones of the latter. From the very opening of chords, you find yourself nodding in beat quite readily. A touch of revebrations from the bass & drum kit making one's chest muscles bounce back and forth enough that you didn't need caffeine. ... Which really means I shouldn't have had those two espresso Martinis beforehand. Their album comes out soon on June 28th @ the Espy. Definitely worth checking out.

The follow up band Girly Days was... well to call them a limp-wristed cousin of Nine Days wouldn't be inaccurate. Barely made it through their first song before I did what I always do when I'm bored at a gig. Went to go get some food. Made it back in time for them to be playing their last song of the set.

Having never heard of Sound Mind before, I wasn't really having high expectations. Already had a rather enjoyable evening of it, so didn't need something to get my money's worth (All $5 of it ^_~). Whilst being self-described as somewhat trance-metal, I didn't get much of that. The light show emphasized that side, but overall I would put them just as metal and leave it at that. Apart from the fact that it was somewhat reminiscent of Linkin Park. ... And it's bass guitarist whom we shall give the moniker "Token" (Very much the token black guy) was really getting into the gig along with the lead singer. Between the two of them raising the energy of the perfomance it would be a little surprising to find that I would have a bone to pick. But I do.

I must absolutely emphasize the absolutely lacklustre performance from the Bogan lead guitarist. He couldn't possibly have moved less had his feet been nail-gunned to the floor. There really was less emotion apart from a certain smug grin at "I'm a lead guitarist in a rock band" and all the glances which he threw towards a certain section of the audience which Dom's friend (Sorry mate, forgot your name! -_-;) and I called "Groupie Central". Given the average age of the crowd was quite youthful, I wouldn't have been surprised if three or more of them made it backstage after the performance. Given how thoroughly unimpressed I was, it didn't take much for me to leave before the encore even really got started.

On the plus side of it all, I do have a pretty good idea of what to get Dom for her b-day celebrations this Saturday. *cackles with glee*
