Forever on the search for the perfect software...
Had the near perfect setup, until I found some new toys. My new iPod forced a slightly early upgrade from 10.3.9 to 10.5 (Mac OS X). I was going to wait to hear a few more reviews before I upgraded my powerbook (ppc G4), but I really wanted to use my new iPod now.
New install was seamless. I was cooking while reloading my operating system, so it took about 2 hours for me to get through it all. I installed from scratch because of potential problems for the powerbook, but I still managed to have all my apps and preferences returned to normal in no time. It's freaking sweet to not have to reset everything up the way I want it to work.
Of course since I upgraded I suddenly have a whole new group of software to try that was restricted before. The program that actually prompted this update is flock:
It's just a new web browser. Nothing special. Except I can upload pictures and my lj without actually going to those sites. Plus a lot of extra multimedia hoopla (I'm actually really digging this webclipboard). It can keep track of my favorite websites, rss feeds and the like, which I could access from any computer. The google image search function was all it took for me to take it seriously. I'm starting to like all this easy eye candy...it makes me feel dirty.
I also need to test some different iPod sync software. I don't like the direct iTunes sync options, so I'm looking for alternatives. If all else fails, I know I can easily create a completely separate iTunes library just for iPod syncing:
iTunes Library Manager. I already have one library for my external HD and one for my laptop. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know.
