I'm THIS many years old......Honorable Mention

Amusing happenstance at the check out line at the grocery store last week.

I was buying a bottle of cream sherry - the kind I use to cook my mushroom dish. Now, me being me, I've grown accustomed to being carded when purchasing it (even though I consider the sherry more sugary oaky-flavored water rather than alcohol....which it is by the time it's done cooking).

Anyways, I was carded as usual....but then the cashier took my ID and went into a side office for a solid 2 minutes, where I saw her questioning whoever I assumed was her manager. I stood there meanwhile with a bemused look on my face. Eventually, the cashier returned. However, she still didn't hand me back my ID.

Instead, she made me sign a form stating that I was in fact over 21.

It's not like this is standard practice - I've bought sherry from that store many many times before without so much pomp and circumstance.

This is certainly the first time anyone has made me sign a document legally indemnifying them of responsibility and that I am as old as I say I am.
