GAH!
I got an MSN-virus. You know, a link you get from someone, and when you click it and open the file, BOOM! It sends itself to all of your contacts, gives you userbars and fucks your computer up good if you're not protected. posted by some guy I've been talking to frequently the last time, and that often sends me links like that. This time it was the harmless post "lol, check: *link that started with uglypictures.com*". When I ran the program, stupid as I was, I immediatly saw something like 30 different convo windows come up, as it's prime time on MSN and I have more than 70 contacts. After about 10 seconds of helplessness (all the work makes your computer unable to follow commands), MSN Messenger was smart enough to shut itself down. This was followed by about five virus messages from AVG and a few error messages which I have no idea what were. I ran through Ad-Aware, found three critical objects and removed them, before I opened Internet Explorer to see how it had been affected. Much to my surprise, the only thing that happened was a toolbar that I easily removed with a little right-click. After making sure everything looked right, I restarted. I've set my MSNM to start when I start up Windows, and even though there came a warning, I was pretty sure I had removed everything, so i started it. Everything looked fine, so I changed my subnick to warn all the people I had sent it to. Suddenly, it all started again, lots of convos and automatic shutdown of MSN. I started up AVG, Ad-aware and Spybot S&D and set to search. I started writing this entry, but when Ad-aware had removed all it found, suddenly everything I had up went down. After about half an hour with more searching and destroying, and one more virussending, it looked ok, but I don't know if I dare use MSN in a few days now. >__>
