I never would have expected that one could actually kill Governor Swann after all he did in the second movie. I thought that a bigger part was reserved for his character in AWE. Instead, he was killed off because he wasn't needed anymore. Things like that exceed the outer limits of my understanding.

I didn't know they were going to kill Norrington because I had avoided any kinds of spoilers and not even seen the trailer until a week before the movie, so it was an even greater shock for me when I saw him die on screen, and in such a horrible scene. And he didn't even get to interact with Jack, not even once. When at the beginning, he eyed the sword Beckett had given him and his face went sad, I thought that Ted & Terry would finally make up for all the butchery they did to his character in DMC. Instead, they gave him a pathetic send-off. Both the fact and the circumstances of Norrington's death are enough for me to hate AWE. True, since he died on the Dutchman, it can't be too difficult to bring him back, but even though they brought back almost every dead guy from the first or second movie, I doubt that if they ever make another sequel, they're going to bring back Norrington. They've made him obsolete and boring. I'll never forgive them for that.
