Vegas

So I have a technical question for vidders. I'm trying something new with source/rendering to make it better quality, but I'm having aspect ratio type issues. I seriously can't understand it and it's driving me crazy. My clips are 720x480 avi files, which is the normal NTSC resolution, and I have my project settings and rendering settings set to that as well (and a .9091 pixel aspect ratio). Anyway, all my 720x480 clips (including source clips as well as rendered clips) are squished when played (and in full screen there is letterboxing on the side, so that it looks like it's a fullscreen type thing). I have the stretch to fill setting on, too. The weird thing is that in the preview window in vegas, it looks like the normal widescreen. I can't figure this out. Alternatively, does anyone know how to edit VOB or mpg in Vegas? (Because they look fine).

EDIT: Nevermind, I sort of found a solution. The quality is still lost a bit, though. I'd love to be able to edit mpegs. Damn Vegas.
