Welcome back to another week on Planet RC. Work sucked. Monday, the usual suspects called out of work and so I was once again covering for some craptastic employees. Of course, upper management looks the other way. I have pretty much given up on getting my own work done and will tell anyone in a heart beat that if they think they can do better, then so be it. They have NO idea how Office Space the whole place really is. I am not going to stress it anymore lest I start to obsessively covet my stapler. heh heh
Math class went well this week. Big test last Thursday, but I think I did well. I was reeeally nervous about English because we got the results of our homework assignment. As you all know, I wrote a paper about a childhood experience. When he handed my paper back, it was covered in red ink markings. PANIC! A sign of a bad thing for sure, I thought. I almost shoved it in my notebook to forget that it ever existed, but I was a big girl and looked it over to see where I went wrong. Turns out, the professor LOVED IT!
He said that it was a beautiful little essay and that it was an enjoyable read from start to finish. On the technical side of things, he said that I showed excellent control of spelling, punctuation and syntax and made little comments like: "good description", "excellent" on the side of certain paragraphs. YAYYYYYyy Who would have thought that when I was wiping out on the roller rink floor under a pile of other little kids that it would pay off for me in college??? LOL
Well the REALLY big news of the week was the ACL fest! It's a big out door music festival featuring every type of band under the sun. (And LITERALLY under the sun, yall- it was DAMN hot!) The whole thing takes place in Zilker Park downtown. There are like 7 stages and it goes on for about 12 hours for three whole days! E and I had a 3 day pass, but only went to 2 days and still got our money's worth.
We took a half day at work on Friday, coated ourselves in sunscreen, grabbed our hats and sunglasses and off we went to the shuttle bus which dropped us off at the gate. As soon as we got inside, we noticed a big plume of thick, black smoke rising in the not-so-distant distance. No one seemed to be running in our direction screaming, though, so we continued on in and found out that someone's RV had blown up in the parking lot! What the??! There was a band onstage at the time and the singer said that they had heard about the trailer that blew up and since he was from Tennessee,he knew what that kind of thing was all about. HA HA- I about fell over with that one.
So the day was all about heat and hiking. We saw, Joss Stone, Queens of the Stone Age, MIA and Blonde Redhead. Not a single act was like the other, so it was like a music buffet. The best act was for last, though- Bjork! I can honestly say, it was the most surreal music experience that I have ever been witness to and I have seen KISS, yall! Bjork is so unique with her weird costumes and bizaree makeup. Her band was a combination of electronica and a huge all-girl brass band from Iceland who wore hot red and green gowns. The music seemed like an artsy combination of sounds always with an excellent beat of course. I had NO idea how she sang over it all. How does one sing in key to sounds? Well, she did quite a job, and left me as well as the rest of the huge ass crowd screaming for more. :)
Elisa and I met this cool chick named Abbie while we were in the Bjork mob. She was an architect from McAllen and apparently just spends all her money getting the hell out of McAllen to see live shows across Texas. (Can't say I blame here there!) She gave me a ride back to my RAV and Elisa had drinks with her at Casino, afterwards. I had to cut out because I had class Saturday morning. :S Anyway, I told E to get her number before she came home, but wouldn't you know- she gave Abbie our number and that was that. I hate when that happens! You can always count on the fact that the other person is either going to lose your number or be too shy to call back. RRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr
Anyway, Saturday at ACL was pretty much all about seeing MUSE. They are really the only ones I remember. Never mind drugs, the Texas Sun can fry your brain all by itself. Anyway, MUSE was an excellent fill-in for the no-show White Stripes. When 2 lousy band members can't get their act together enough to play for thousands of people, it's time to hang it up and that's my take on Jack and his drummer chick. ANYWAY, MUSE was awesome! They had a huuuuge show. There was a video screen and lasers and the singer was all over the guitar. I kept trying to think of who they reminded me of and on some songs, I thought of Queen. Not a bad comparison I would say. R.I.P Freddie!
After MUSE, it was time to hike back. Rather than wait for the shuttle, E and I decided to just walk back to downtown like the rest of the masses. It was a little over a mile, but kinda nice. Beautiful night. We stopped for pizza along the way, took pictures while we crossed the bridge and had a soda at Halcyon before we made it back to the car. Great night. I hit the showers the millisecond I was through the door and then collapsed in bed.
Back to work tomorrow. Pop goes the fantasy bubble. SIGH* Well, I'm looking forward to classes again this week, at least. This WED, I see Dr. B for my lab results. The vertigo is still off and on. I even had a spell really quick while typing this. Maybe it's time for bed...
OH- I saw Lilo and Stitch tonight w/ E! WHAT A CUTE ASS MOVIE! Totally not what I expected, but LOVED IT! well, nuff said. gnight, amigos!
